  • I'm starting to think about how to move my credit card balance as the 0% is coming to an end. I need to find some sort of tool that does clever calculations, ie

Card 1 (existing Egg) no balance transfer fee, 16.9% APR
    Card 2 (HSBC), BT 2.9%, APR 0%
    Card 3 (Barclaycard), BT 2.5%, APR 6.9%
Card 4 some other card to be identified!

I reckon I may be able to pay it off in 6 months, but want to be able to calculate how much each of these will cost me.

Off to search the Balance Transfer guide and forum!!

    Cheers

    The tool exists!

    Fantastic.

So far, transferring to HSBC seems best option, but looking at Martin's guide there may be better deals...

    On a mission now...

Warning - seriously geeky content in post below!

I used the tool and worked out how much it would cost me for the credit if I transfer the £3000 balance on my Egg card, and pay it back over a number of months.

If I don't transfer the money but stay with Egg, it will cost me £203*
    Going to Virgin, £89
    Going to Barclaycard £137*
    Going to HSBC £87*
    Going to Play £45
    Or MBNA £16

The ones with * are what I am offered with cards I already have, so they are the easiest options, but, I'm going to apply for MBNA next week, and see how I get on. Fingers crossed!

  • I'm feeling a bit fed up today. I got paid from job #2, and was able to transfer £500 into the joint account - where we've got a pesky overdraft. Which actually leaves us exactly the same as we were at the end of last month, the balance has not gone down. And I have to go and spend money on groceries, which will mean we're worse off in that account than we were last month!
I looked to see where the money has gone. We've had to pay for DS2 to start uni, car stuff - new water pump / tyres, hotel when we took DS2 to uni, and plane tickets for DS1 to get back to uni (why have they gone so far away!!) It effectively means that I've slogged my guts out and am no further forward in the moneysaving stakes.
What I really want is to end the month owing less than £5K, preferably, quite a lot less. To do this I need to:-

Spend next to nothing on groceries
Stop OH spending anything at all :rotfl:
Get paid from edigital - just short of £100
Get money back from E-on - over £30 promised on the phone a month ago:confused:
Bank the cheque from GlobalTestMarket - £32.26
Put off getting the leaky shower fixed for a bit longer.

Job#2 is coming to an end, they've appointed a new manager, so the extra money will dry up as soon as pre-employment checks are done.

    Grrr!

  • Hi all
A funny day today, I went into job #2 fully intending to work until around 5.30, and then had a grumpy parent to deal with at 5.25, which took ages! I left at 7, and then cycled home really fast (don't like cycling home in the dark, not a very good route for a lone person). I think the adrenaline is pumping through my body now though and I'm really alert!
MSE wise life is not too bad, although there was a leaving lunch for someone today and so I went into Mr T and bought some bits and pieces - not organised to have prepared something. Other than that though all on plan to finish the month sub £5K, or, just two days left to be restrained!

    Edigital - received and banked
    Globaltestmarket - banked
E-on - emailed again, still no response. I am disappointed as I thought the lovely Brian was going to get things under way for us to get the money we are owed back.

Plans for tonight are to finish my two mystery shops and do the survey thats popped up, hopefully before Waking the Dead!

    Cheers all

hi, hope you haven't felt like you were talking into the dark, we've been away at this end but i'm back with vengence and ready to face a very squeeky month. going to try and achieve the most NSD in living history
  • Hooray, end of the month and I get to redo all the spreadsheets.
Uh oh, does that make me sound really sad??

Final balance is £4,816, which is not as low as I wanted but is under the magic £5K mark that I was worried about.

    So thinking about October....

    On the one hand:
I can do my expenses for some voluntary work - probably a couple of hundred pounds worth :D
I worked masses for job #2 and should get about £800 :D:D
A little bit of survey money to come... say £50
Eon - maybe - but I was promised it in August

    On the other:
    Shower, dripping still
I would like to replace the defunct dishwasher. I might need you to do some butt kicking with that one. I know I can't justify it as essential, only two of us at home now, we wash up as we go, and the money is better coming off the debt. I - or actually we - just really really want to get one!

I think a good target would be to have the shower fixed and owe less than £4K by the end of October. And to buy a dishwasher.

I'm feeling a bit like Gollom in LOTR... precious!!

    Cheers

Also in October I can expect a Butlins payout (£10) and Quidco (about £6).
    Every little helps!

you are no more sad than the rest of us, i check daily to see if i can get my online payslip for about a week before it's due, once i get it it means i can update my accounts.
i wish i got paid weekly so that i could have the enjoyment each week!
  • Hi Lemon Tree
Its nice getting paid twice a month as I get double the enjoyment at the moment, but I've been working silly hours and getting paid an awful lot, but the debt hasn't been going down by a corresponding amount, which is worrying.
Can I just ask why you chose 'Lemon Tree'?
