  • Hello
A rather dull Tuesday evening here after a hectic day. Loads to do but apathy has set in so I'm on the sofa. DFW plans are progressing, a slight hiccup with helping DS1 with summer school costs (he's at uni), and we hired a carpet shampooer at the weekend. A bigger problem with the dishwasher which is broken, and the shower still leaking and needs a plumber.
Following my overpayment from work, this week we've heard back from tax credits, that we were not actually eligible for them last year so they're going to recoup the £100ish they paid us. Grr!!
    Cheers all

i can only reduce my overdraft in lumps of £50's so i started with doing 50 squid every three months, when money became a bit better the amount increased and in the end i was reducing it every month, i just had to wait a calender month between each request to reduce. Luckily my bank let you request a change to your o/draft online.
  • The end of July - and I bet across the land DFW-ers are checking salary slips, bank statements etc to see how they've done.
The CBM household has not had an especially good month, considering how much money has come into the house (I estimate an 'additional' £800). We've spent a small fortune on tickets for DS to get to summer school, buying M&S wine (although it was very much reduced), helping DD with some bits for her new place, getting some bits for our house sorted including hiring a carpet shampooer. Despite all of that our balance has improved by (drum roll please) £345.

    Onwards and upwards!

  • Cunning plans for August:

Outgoings wise, August is probably going to be another tough month, the priority is probably DS2, who is off to uni and will need deposit for flat, and I'd like to get him kitted out to start his course. At home, the shower still needs a plumber to stop its leak (in the wall), and I'd really like to replace the defunct dishwasher.

Income wise, there is not much in the way of survey money to come in, although I've got enough points to cash in on Global Test Market (£30ish), and worked lots in job #2 (£500ish). Butlins is also at over £10 so I can get that back, the phone bill has come and BT owe us £30ish, and I've got about £20 in TAB bonus which I need to play bingo with and hopefully convert to some real money (as opposed to lose the lot!!)

I've still got £50 token for John Lewis for my birthday - not such a fab gift as there is no JL near us! I did think about using it as part money for a dishwasher online, but they don't price match online and the dishwasher I wanted was over £30 more at JL, which seems like a lot of money to waste. DS2's uni stuff would be better bought at Ikea/Asda, methinks.

Not the most cunning plans in the world!

  • Kids!

DS2 and I exchanged words, over washing up (dishwasher is broken). I 'suggested' that he wash his plate, and when he held it under the tap I 'suggested' that he use washing up liquid.

That led to slamming of doors, storming off etc. And now he says he's not going to eat at home any more. Ever. He goes off in the morning without breakfast, and eats out in the evening before coming home.

I know that he is likely to come round when he is [STRIKE]hungry[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]skint[/STRIKE] ready, but what a waste of his money! And I want to do the shopping, am I supposed to cater for him or not?!

hi, you're right i've been playing with payslips and money for a week, now just have to settle down and get on with it. Looks like i only have one more month and then i'll have paid off half my debt.
sounds like you have been very MSE by insisting your son wash his plate it will probably save you a fortune in food if you don't have to feed him lol
  • Hi Lemon Tree
Thanks for posting, I have wondered about talking to myself so much in here!
Getting to half our debt was a great feeling, and you've cleared so much so quickly it must be fab to have that goal in sight!
I was hoping to get to sub £5K by the end of Aug, but that is looking less and less likely.
We have just swapped fuel companies again and have had a final and unexpected bill of over £200 from Eon, grrr. The money is coming out of the account on Monday. Fingers crossed that our salary DDs will get to the joint account by then, or I'll be shifting money around in the wee small hours tomorrow!

Have a good day everyone, enjoy the sunshine!

    Hi Claw back money,

I spotted your post and thought I’d post, although I may be a little late. :o

If the final bill amount has not been claimed, E.ON will be able to set up a payment arrangement with you. Spreading the final payment over 2 or 3 instalments may be useful rather than paying the full amount in one go. :)

Sorry if this is a little late, and the payment has already been claimed.

    Hi Brian
Unfortunately the money has been taken so you are a little late for that - but huge thanks for posting.
Where you may be able to help/advise is with the final reading. E.on and our new supplier are using different readings for gas (we were dual fuel). And, because the error is not in our favour, no one seems terribly fussed about correcting it! :wall:

The phone calls went like this:
Me and E.on - me - I've noticed the figures on the bill are different to Npowers starting figures. E.on - Npower gave us those figures... talk to them.
Me and Npower: me - I've noticed the starting figures are different to E.ons figures on bill. Npower - we gave E.on the correct figures... talk to them.
Me and E.on: me - Npower say they gave you the correct figures. E.on - double check and then say we haven't actually had the gas figure from N.power yet, I'm not quite sure where this figure came from.... its below some limit, Npower have to adjust their starting figure
Me and Npower: me - (as above) Npower - we will send E.on the figure again, and they have to amend the final bill.
Me and Eon: Npower are sending you the figures... do I still pay this (incorrect) bill. E.on - when (if??) we get the figure in the correct format we will issue a refund. Its too late to cancel the DD.

Me (collapse in blubbering heap on floor)

I think its only just over £10 but heck I do boring surveys for less than that - every little helps and all that! :money:
Any ideas of when/how I should chase this up would be appreciated! I think it could be ages!

    Thanks

oh i remember the hassle of changing suppliers, one said they'd given over the readings the other said the hadn't it went on for weeks and i was told if they didn't pass them over on the third request i'd have to start the process all over again. i think i may accused them of trying to stop me changing so they could continue to overcharge me or something like that and eventually they got their acts together.
Don't worry you're never really talking to yourself, i don't get online each night and i always try and check the diaries of those i've posted on before but sometimes they get so low on the list i lose them. I've got my loans savings account sorted now though i have to admit it's driving me nuts how long it takes money to get into it but i guess that's why they offer a relatively good rate.
i've been trying to help my sister recently with her finances, unfortunately i'm not sure she wants to hear all the hard facts about it but i'll keep trying cos i know what she's gong through . have to admit it's feels like it's take me an age to get so far with my debts but i'm really proud, i'm still in the obsessive stage but i think that' the only way i'll ever get free of the weight round my neck and be able to buy a house
