Fed up with current o2 18 month contract

I currently have an 18 month contract with O2 that expires in december. I pay £35 a month for 600 mins and unlimited texts, however my boyfriend is on Vodafone and did some negotiating with them, he pays £35 a month for 600 mins unlimited texts and unlimited internet! I would like to make use of my internet but every time i do my bill goes through the roof, so naturally i feel a bit ripped off. I have been with o2 since jan 2007, was originally on £25 a month, but upgraded to this tariff since i was averaging bills of £77 a month with £143 being the highest..so i have in the past spent alot of money with them.

I also have a U900 Soul, i had problems with this recently where the screen stopped working, they sent it off..but what an awful experience it was! I was for 4 weeks without my phone, continuously getting fobbed off, firstly they sent it back saying the screen was cracked and they wouldnt fix it free, so i went into the shop took the phone and said to the gormless guy behind the desk..does this look cracked to you? he replied with a series of grunts and somewhere in there 'we will send it off again'.. then it was a series of 'we need another week' blah blah, before 4 or 5 weeks later...'we have lost it..give me a day to find it' before, 'we are ordering you a new phone.' I was very unhappy with the service here, especially because after another week i finally recieved my new phone.. a handset with an elastic band and a piece of paper wrapped round...(anything could have happened to it) since now i am having problems with the speaker when on the phone and i have only had it back about a month and a half! It is making metallic screeching noises sometimes when on the phone. I dont want to go through that hell again!

I have been looking at blackberries and the iphone, with the iphone i have seen a tarriff that would suit me, unlimited internet and with a bolt on unlimited texts, and it includes spending nearly an extra £10 a month with O2, I was wondering if there was any way they might let me swap to this early? I wouldnt mind paying a reasonable amount to do this or some money towards the handset as it is an expensive one, but definitely not 6, 7 or 8 times £35! I have already read about lowering the tariff but i dont think i am able to do this yet. Any advice would be appreciated!

Your probably looking at paying an early termination fee to break the current contract. Usually the months remaining * tarrif price.

The only way you will do it is to disconnect your existing contract, pay it off, PAC the number to PAYG and then take out a new contract, PAC your number to that.

You can't pay it off early and upgrade.

oh, they let me upgrade early to £35 from £25 because it was going up in price rather than down, i just thought if i was spending more with them they might turn a blind eye, especially since im going to complain about the service i recieved for repairs of my u900 and the fact it has broken again, personally i dont think they gave me a new handset

was he out of contract at this point/upgrading - this will be why he was able to negotiate? at the time of your upgrade perhaps you didn't negotiate further or it was not available?

I have been with o2 since jan 2007,

but for the terms of this particular contract, you have been on this since you took the upgrade

was the screen cracked? we don't usually carry out screen repairs that are cracked because they can be damaged very easily with pressure, and don't usually 'just' crack on their own

as stated above it's going to be your line rental multiplied by the number of months you have left

I mean upgrade your handset, not your tariff. You can upgrade your tariff whenever you want.

thanks guys, i only wanted to know what my chances were of upgrading to the iphone before the end, as i said i dont mind paying a bit but not 7*£35, i just thought they might give me some leeway due to my bad customer service and the fact i am still left with a broken phone plus the fact i have been a loyal customer that spends alot of money with them

Can Holli downgrade by 1 tarriff. IE: £30 * whatever her remaining months are?
£5 better off per month if you do downgrade/

Depends what your original tariff was Holli... did you originally upgrade on the £25 tariff then move up to the £35? If so, then you can move it back down to the £25.
If you do want to go ahead with the early upgrade/buying out of contract then this would still count as 7x£25, then cancellation, porting number to PAYG, and then applying for a new contract. This will then leave you starting again really, with no loyalty discounts etc (not that there are any for iphone anyway if that's what you want to go for). Bear in mind most of the iphone tariffs only come with 500 texts, is this enough for your usage?
