Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for 4st May. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning on this Bank holiday Monday.
I have the day off and so am looking to spend most of it in the garden. I have loads of seedlings that need planting out and so I am looking to transform the bare plot to green. The biggest problem will be rabbits. The wild ones seem to be able to find the hole in the fence and eat everything.
Ate the first rhubarb pie from the garden yesterday (obviously the pie was'nt from the garden) Strawbs look good for a crop this year.
Looking back at the shopping trip at ASDA I can see it's all a big con. The burgers that used to be in packs of 20 are now in 12s. The 1 litre bottles are now 750ml etc. Some prices rocketed this week too, so a little disapointing.
Anyway have a nice holiday weekend.... Cheers

Morning peeps
i woke an hour ago on the sofa after far too much wine last night.:o
DH is in bed and i`ve been running around like a mad thing trying to get all the kitchen gizmos on and finished before the economy 7 switches over.
Everything should be ok but the washing machine will run over, won`t be expensive though as the leccy guzzling bits of the program will be over
N9eav - I remember one of the Morrisons promotions where almost everything worked out more expensive because the packaging sizes had been changed. I hate the supermarkets for things like this as lots of people don`t realise it.
Today i had planned on spending lots of time in the garden and i made myself a list of things to do out there, guess what - its raining!
If it clears up later i shall get out there but there is lots to do indoors too so it won`t be a wasted day.
Yesterdays tea was chicken chasseur with baked potatoes and broccolli from the garden. This was the first time that i`d made the chicken dish in years and the first time without a packet mix too and it was lovely, i used to think that packet mixes were the only way that things like that could be made
We had the rest of the blackberry and apple crumble from the night before which was even nicer once it had been stood for a while too.
Tonight we shall be having haddock, spicy wedges and peas, pudding wil probably be hm thick and creamy yogurt with a handfull of blackcurrants from the freezer, i`m trying to use up all the fruit in there as i don`t suppose it will bee too long before i`m filling it back up again (fingers crossed).
I have a roller blind in the bathroom which decided to spit the chord out, no idea how it happened but i managed to thread the chord back through onto the little notches and it works but - when i let go of the chord the blind falls all the way down off the roller and will not stay up no matter how much i fiddle with it. I`ve googled for ages and can find references to the tension but nowhere can i find out how to reset it, i remember when i put it up that it was really simple but the instructions evade me atm so if anyone has any idea what i need to do Please let me know. Thanks
I`m off to run down the garden to open the greenhouse window then hop in the shower, hope the sausages are thawed ready for breakfast as i`ve woken up starving
Have a lovely day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

N9eav, how about rabbit pie? agree with you about mr a, only go there in an emergency now, love lidl :j hope you sort the little seedlings, they seem to multiply as they are being transplanted and 30 feel like 300 by the end of the day.
just going to do a quick wipe and hoover this morning as ds2 and his family are coming later, and if it stays dry, a picnic on the lawn.
[not as posh as it sounds]

Yep Grandmasam. ASDA is getting expensive. They have deals, but staple foods are sneaking up week on week. Even the 2 chickens for £6 are actually more expensive than Aldi I just don't like the fact that Aldi and Lidl won't take credit cards. I like the cash back on my purchases at the end of the year with Amex.
:jJust found out that Boiler Juice group discount on my oil order has lowered the oil price to 30.15p litre. Lowest price since I had the oil installed in 2002. :j Wish I had a bigger tank:mad:NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Morning all,
It's been a public holiday over here too. This one is called Labour Day. I did some baking this morning as well as having visitors. After lunch did some gardening & general pottering around. DS2 has been laid up sick since he got here but was good today. DH thinks he had a touch of food poisoning with dodgy chicken. DD & I are off to Bingo tonight. The wind is a bit chilly atm so we will be rugging up well.
Have got DGS Tuesday & Thursday this week. DH bought back a celeriac (free)
from the markets on Friday. I made some soup with it yesterday. Never ever seen one before. Soup is nice. So soup & pumpkin quiche for tea tonight.
PP The picture of Martin looks the same to me.
Hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable Bank Holiday. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

Hope you manage to get out and have a bit of a break. Hope you feel a bit better too.

I'm not sure if it is Aldi or Lidl but at least one of them does now take credit cards I think. It might be worth checking it out.
You can tell it is a bank holiday - it is pouring down!!!!
DD(23) goes back to Oxford tonight so want to spoil her a bit before she goes.
Thought about making chicken curry for lunch and then a huge home made pizza for tea. Bought YS spinach last night that would make a nice topping for pizza.
Enjoying a cup of tea in peace and quiet on here but can hear movement upstairs so may need to start brekkie for the family.
Made a rapid loaf last night so that should disappear quickly and then will need to make more bread rolls.

Good Morning All
Sunny here but quite chilly, OH is fence staining & I will be ironing (again) in a minute.
Didnt have the barbie yesterday we was too cold by the time we are ready so will have it at lunchtime today. Not too sure what else we are doing, may be just a quiet one. Did make sausage rolls yesterday which were lovely.
Should make some fudge brownies but I will need to pop down the shop to get some choc, also need some bits for packed lunches.
Seedlings seem to be doing well, all the marrows are now showing - cant wait for them I adore roast marrow :j
Off now for a quick surf and then will get dressed (well it is a Bank Hol)
x
PP - Martin also looks the same as usual to me

Good morning everyone

Well so far the weather has been beautiful this Bank holiday weekend
We've got a big family BBQ starting at lunchtime, and it's cloudy and cool :rolleyes: Fingers crossed for some sun by then!
Not been around much, been doing bits of this and bits of that
Bits of the garden are looking good, bits of the house have been thoroughly decluttered. The rest is as normal, a work in progress:rotfl: This morning I am going to iron the piles that have been drying so well, then I can enjoy a drinkie or three with a clear conscience at the barbie
Hope you all have something to enjoy today, and that everyone is well.
Try refreshing the page Essex-girl. He's dressed like a Jedi :rotfl:
Bye for now, CM xYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Hello everybody :hello:
Well it's nice to be home, but it's bloomin freezin brrrrr, mind you after temps of 34 degs I suppose I am gonna be cold
Anyway after 10days of being waited on hand and foot (ooo it were luvly) its back to earth with a bump....
I got to start cooking again:eek: good job I did a cook up and stocked the freezer before we went away at least we have something quick to eat.
Case's unpacked and put away, WM doing overtime, then it will be ironing .....
Out shopping later, I did think about sorting the garden out but it looks a bit murky out there, dry up to now but not for much longer I dont think.
Got the post to sort out as well, I hate doing that when we get back, seems to take ages and most of it is usually rubbish, end up with at least 1 tree to recycle
Havent read back over the last 12 days so hope you are all ok,
Welcome to all the newbies, and if I have missed any birthdays etc, belated CONGRATS to you
(((hugs)) for all in need
Back later
Anne
