I would not say you are being too sensitive re: food poisoning. When severe, there is a risk of death/hospitalisation, particularly for the elderly/small children. I have only ever had it once (I am really paranoid about getting it - won't even eat chicken in restaurants, no seafood etc...) I got it from a restaurant in Spain as a result of eating two mouthfuls of the children's lukewarm spaghetti bolognaise. All three of us were poorly for over a week and I would have happily smashed every window in the restaurant (had I had the strength or the desire to move more than a couple of foot from a bathroom). I would stick to your guns, it's easy to forget how ill you felt when you felt better.

Incidentally, back to the original thread, I always seem to be behind you "my chocolates are squashed and what are you going to do about it" people when I am in the queue for customer services ;)

I find Pampers v. good for customer service. Bought some Activefit and on 2 nappies the leg cuff snapped leaking all the granules out. Emailed my concern that they were safe and they sent me a £10 refund. Last week (only a month later) bought some more, which were covered in splodges of yellow dye. Again they are going to send me a refund and were very apologetic. If anyone else has these they told me NOT to use the ones with the yellow dye on and I am gonna send them back. So thumbs up for Pampers. :T
As for Morrisons, wrote to complain about off-chicken (it was really bad!) not even a reply from them!

On Monday, I bought a tub of prepared vegetables from a well known food and clothing retailer. I microwaved them for 4 minutes and served them to my family. Imagine my horror when spooning out my share, to discover a juicy worm, at least half an inch long. It stood out from the surrounding shades of orange, green and white because it was a purple colour. I must admit, it made me feel sick.
I took the tub back yesterday and customer services are going to send it to head office for analysis before contacting me. I got a refund for the product but I wonder what level of compensation they will offer me for this?

This sounds really horrible,I am not sure if by giving you a refund for the product at the store, that it means they are not obliged to compensate you further, but finding a worm in prepared food  is quite major!!

These companies immediately blame their suppliers, but their name is on the product & the buck stops with them.

Update re: Trouble with Huggies Pull-Ups.

I received £9 worth of vouchers to compensate me for a carpet that is now stained  . Better than in the past when I would have just put up with it and not said anything.

I wrote to Morrisons re their packs of pre slice chicken. These are the ones with stuffing in the middle but only the top two slices had stuffing, the bottom two were stuffingless. I also sent them the packaging and a letter. They were very kind and sent me a £5 voucher which I spent in the flower and garden plant section!

It will be interesting to see what compensation they come up with. No matter what it is, I will never buy similar products from them again!
You're right- they did blame the supplier immediately, but as you say the buck stops with them!

I think i have been lucky really, i have only ever had to complain 3 times. 2 of them were to Pampers. Once was 6 appies in 1 pack had no tabs on them to fasten the nappy making them useless and the second time i had 3 nappies leak leaving that jelly type stuff from inside the nappies all over my son and the bed..... it was only just wet too not soaked. Both times they sent an apoogetic letter and £10 of vouchers. Must say i have now swapped to asda's own nappies tho! The other time was to Hovis. A loaf of bread we had was still raw in the middle, i sent them a letter including the bread and a couple of weeks later we had a hovis lorry pull up outside the house with about 50 loafs of bread for us!!!! there was 1 of every kind they make as way of compensation.......we had to run round the neighbours to borrow there freezers lol
  • I complained to Durex about 6 weeks ago regarding one of their products not living up to it's claims. I didn't hear anything back at all! Not even an apology!

    So big BOOO for Durex!

I wrote to Mars after my bag of chocolate Revels did not contain one single coffee sweet (my fave). Obviously had eaten whole bag before realising this fact. Got 3 x £1 vouchers for Mars confectionary in return!
