can i just say that of course i wasn't condoning deception - my little story was just a light hearted mention of an incident many years ago now by a wreckless and foolhardy student who wondered if a stray hair from her own head would fool miss lee. It did. She never did it again, promise!

On Monday, I bought a tub of prepared vegetables from a well known food and clothing retailer. I microwaved them for 4 minutes and served them to my family. Imagine my horror when spooning out my share, to discover a juicy worm, at least half an inch long. It stood out from the surrounding shades of orange, green and white because it was a purple colour. I must admit, it made me feel sick.
I took the tub back yesterday and customer services are going to send it to head office for analysis before contacting me. I got a refund for the product but I wonder what level of compensation they will offer me for this?0 -
Mc Donalds sent me a £5 voucher when i wrote passing comment that the lettice in their Mc Chicken sandwiches was brown. It was a bank holiday and it was lunch time so i did not expect this.
I had a huge piece of grisle in a scotch egg once sent it back and was compensated with a £5 postal order. I only found it after taking a huge mouthful - Yuck!
Have sent back to Mars on several occasions chewy misshaped malteasers and they send money off vouchers, even when i said it was my 3rd letter. I do send the packaging. - very good at explaining how they go wrong.
On the other hand wrote to Impulse body spray telling them how nice one scent was and they sent me a free voucher.Jenny

I used to buy Pampers Active nappies but I thought I'd try their Pamper Dry once. They leaked really badly and my daughter used to wake up screaming as she was wet. I phoned the Pampers who were really apologetic and sent me vouchers to cover the cost of the now useless pack and more vouchers to buy new nappies (I think they were worth about £25). I was quite impressed as I only phoned them to let them know and didn't really expect anything in return. It's best to regret things you have done rather than those you have not...0

You can tell a lot about a company's professionalism by how they deal with complaints about 'Physical Contamination'. M&S have a policy to bag items and alert their specialists and if required, put out a 'Red Alert' which goes round all their stores immediately- stuff will be taken off shelves very quickly.
Tesco's policy is very hit & miss-often the stuff gets binned because the staff don't know the procedure.
I reccomend talking to the manufacturer direct in the first instance. If they're not interested, call your local Environmental Health department at the council...they're obliged to investigate.
If you find something really offensive and the company concerned doesn't take it seriously, then call a newspaper or local tv...they deserve all the negative publicity for 1)not treating their customers right and
2)not having proper hygiene systems in place.
The big, bench mounted 'Bonzer' can openers are notorious for dropping little meat 'curly wurlies' into the can being opened. The blades wear out over time and get a groove on one side. You can tell if it's happening because some of the curls end up inside the gears.0 -
I found a snail (very small snail I have to add) in a packet of frozen peas once. Nearly ate it, but my husband said 'that one looks a funny colour' and took it off my fork to inspect. Sent the snail and and letter back to Ross foods. Got a very nice reply and £12 in vouchers. However, I must say I'm kind of wary of buying Ross foods now.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0

Once found a dead insect in one of Tesco's herb salads (which were my favourite), just jumped and screamed at the horrible thought that I might have eaten it. Didn't know you could take them back and complain.... hopefully there won't be a next time but I'll know what to do (on top of the screaming and jumping)! :-)0

jw1096 wrote:I once sent a packet of spicy tomato flavour snaps that Walkers used to make back because they had no flavouring on them at all.
I got nothing back! Cheeky beggars!!
Does anyone know what happened to those crisps? They were well nice (when they had the flavouring on them!)
Jo xx
Don't want to go off topic here - but wish to answer the question posted by jw1096 - Smith Facotry (Walkers) in Swansea makes these - these are only local product to some areas as they tend to sell in those areas. When they moved the product temp to Lincoln plant I was the most unforated (sp) one to be on the platform to add the flavour to this product. The flavour is very acidid to the breathing system - it just rip your insides out as its that strong!
Glad I left there 1 week later!

edda wrote:For example, my most recent complaint was some delicious muesli from Sainsburys - unfortunately there was a cherry stone in there, which I felt I could have broken a tooth on. I suggested that there ought to be a warning on the packet that it could contain cherry stones, as muesli typically has all shapes and sizes of food in it.
Update - for my troubles, the voucher was for £20 - which I thought was very generous, as I was not looking for monetary reward.
However - I was more than a little miffed with M&S who sent me £10 token plus refund after a very nasty case of food poisoning. (The original product was about £4 and I bought 2).
I had a day off work - it was nearly a week before I came off really bland food. I took the packet remnants into the store in question and waited 5 weeks for an analysis, which was inconclusive.
I received the letter from M&S today and am considering returning the £10, as I feel it is an insult.
Am I being too sensitive?0
