one of my 13 year old pupils came back from a holiday abroad she had with her parents, and while on that holiday got her name tattoo on her back in huge bkack letters. I was horrified especally when she told me her mum had taken her to get it done. I hope they used clean needles! I was all for reporting mum for child abuse!

I got my first tattoo done when i was 17 :)
    And i love it hehe.

Anyway, just thought i'd say. You can buy tattoo kits from ebay for £50-£100 now days and anyone can buy them, so people aren't needing to go to tattoo parlours anymore. I was told by my Father in law (who is a tattooist) that the council knows that there are about 100 mobile tattooists! :O and many more that aren't registered, in my area.

This mother HAS committed an offence, and if you are a teacher, then I would have thought the school would have a child protection policy.

This sort of incident should prompt discussion with the head, and at least a conversation with children's services in your area.

This is highly irresponsible parenting at least.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Is it real or is it a henna tattoo? Lots of people/kids have the henna tattoos done on holiday.
(Not that I would ever let mine have it done as I once read that some of the ink they use can scar. They use something other than proper henna as it's cheaper, apparently.)

I had my tatoo done two weeks before I was eighteen. I showed ID (real) - the recpetionist looked at it and then gave me some forms to fill out. It was only when I noticed a sign on the door when leaving I realised you had to be 18 not 16 - she must have misread the date. I still love my tatoo many years on, hopefully your daughter will too - make sure she takes good care of it and doesn't scratch.

i cant get her to open up very much.... thanks again ellieo

Im not surprised to be honest, instead of actually talking to her you just seem to have shouted at her and punished her in as many ways as possible. Taking her out of school is an unbelievable concept as you'll be damaging her education and her future career just because you didn't like her having a tattoo.

I'd advise against punishment and talk to her more though. I knew people who could tell their parents about anything as they'd talk to them properly about it but mine were very much the shouting and punishment type. Therefore, as a result of this I hardly told them about anything in my life due to their opinionated views and punishments. I would say as a direct result of this our relationship has suffered massively; we hardly talk anymore and they know very little about me as a person.

Just a thought, but if you want your daughter to be close to you and actually tell you about these things you need to treat her more like an adult and not instantly resort to punishing her in every way possible.

I've got a similar problem, my 15 years old daughter is talking about having a tattoo done. She knows very well that this is illegal but she says that the tattooists "aren't much bothered" . Well, I'm trying to explain to her that those people usually aren't much bothered about ethics, hygiene and safety, and also, that the results may be horrid as their professional qualities are usually poor.
Sadly, my daughter wouldn't listen and I'm afraid that one day she will come home with a tattoo. However, I will try to press charges against whoever will do it and, also, I will insist on my daughter having blood tests to rule out hepatitis and HIV - I will recommend that to anyone whose kids have been tattooed by some irresponsible b**tards.

I would take her to a few reputable tattoo places, and ask them to speak to her about the importance of the hygene standards etc. Tell her you are not saying not ever, just "not yet". She needs to understand its got to be something she loves enough to still be happy looking at it when she is 80.

Tell her that the people who are willing to do underage tattooing tend to be low on hygiene standards and not good at their work. A slightly imperfect tattoo is still pretty cool when you're 15. When you're 25 and still looking at it, not so much.

The whole point of a tattoo is the aesthetic of it. Cutting corners by going to the dodgy artists just leaves you with a brightly coloured scar.
