Personally (and at the risk of being called names) I'm not sure that tatooists are the cleverist of people, how are they supposed to know a girls age. I know that I find it difficult to figure the ages of my 15 yo dd's friends.
I think I would be considering revoking all her privaliges.

The above is an unfair generalisation of tattooists imo. I know quite a few and they are mostly very intelligent and artistic people.
Any decent tattooist would not tattoo someone under age and if there was any doubt of age then they would want proof. He needs reporting to trading standards, as they are very strict on this kind of thing.

I'm gonna be really unpopular here and say my opinion: I dont think it's a big deal. She made the decision, it's her body so if she does grow to hate it in a few years then thats her problem to deal with. I dont think revoking all her privaliges is really gonna solve the issue, after all tattoos are permanant!

Yes the tattooist was in the wrong but so was your daughter so you can shove all the blame onto him.

But I cant talk really as I'm biast, got my first done when I was 17 and 32 later I'm still in love with my first one :P

Might I play Devil's Advocate here, and say that you THINK she's not.

If she's going and getting tattooed behind your back, there is a full chance that she's doing everything else you mention.

Oh, and As my peice of advice to the original poster, I would get a permanent marker, and block out the tattoo daily with a black square.

That way, she won't be able to show it off to her friends, thus rendering it useless for her.

The same way as other merchants of restricted products do: by insisting on seeing ID. Every time I've had a tattoo done they've asked for ID and for the last one I was 28 years old.

Just as a side note, it amused me that you assumed that tattoo artists aren't the cleverest of people while having a post littered with misspellings. Not important though.

Given that they take a while to heal (and doing it before it was 100% healed would risk serious infection), by the time you'd actually be able to do this completely pointless activity, she'll have already shown it off to her friends.

Yes excellent idea then once it gets a serious infection she will be scarred for life. thus not being able to show it off!!

I will say that I was 15 when I got my 1st (I had fake id though) and still dont regret it 10 years on.

But a tattooist tha doesnt even ask for ID is not reputable IMHO.

Make sure she doesnt scratch at it and that she takes care of it daily - I normally use Bepanthem, which is excellent but have also used a mix of germaline and vasaline - never use vaseline on its own.

Tattooist need a licence so try reporting to your Local Authority and Trading Standards

I second Bepanthen, great stuff for tattoos.

I have friends who got them done as rebellious teenagers while we were still at school - did mainly to show off, didn't really work cos we just laughed at them when we heard how long they were grounded for.

As for the not-intelligent people - I've got a relative with a tatooing/piercing business and they're a very intelligent person, and very arty.

I'm quite heavily tattooed in places where it doesn't show, I started getting them done at 14, Back then a blind eye was turned,
A lot of 14/15 year olds look a lot older than their actual age, so it was probably hard for the tattooist to tell, they might have asked and fake id shown or they might have thought she looked old enough.
She done wrong and u have every right to be livid, but at least it's nothing more serious ie pregnant, into drugs etc.
My tattooist i've used over 22 years was actually the brightest lad at our school! His artisitc skills are amazing people come up from brighton and down from london to see him.
Hope you have worked things through with her xxxxxxxx
