I'd be very concerned about the gang threats - exaggerated or not. Is there any way you could notify police even if he didn't? Not sure if they could do anything as essentially it's hearsay though.

Re lifestyle, camping etc. Would he perhaps be interested in an alternative lifestyle, I'm thinking hippy commune, woodsman, "ancient craft" type things? For example it used to be common in hazel woods to have a chap or two live out there - cut the hazel over winter, and work with it over summer?

"Normal" isn't necessarily the ony way to live :D There are various "collectives" / groups of "alternative" people around...

I don't live near him and i'm not sure exactly where he's staying, but will definitely ask my sister what she thinks (as above, she lives in the same town so sees him more than I do).

Oh, he'd love that! He said the other night that he'd love to be in a tribe or something like that and we did suggest he move to a country that has that, but the excuses started again. Even in this country he would be better off with a group of people who would look out for each other. At the end of the day there is nothing keeping him where he is, he could go wherever he likes and has our full support, but doesn't seem to want to make the effort.

No one is normal...what is normal anyway?! :p

I'm just wondering if he has Asperger's, not being rude you see, it's just his analysis seems extreme? I'm not explaining very well am I :o

Is there any way of getting him seen by a doctor, though I imagine it would be very difficult.

I'm not really sure what Aspergers is, but will look into it.

He did mention he had been to see someone, but they didn't really listen to him (or maybe he meant they didn't see his point of view?) so he didn't go again. I'm not sure if he was referred there or went out of choice. It is something i've considered, but I can't make him go.

Not being funny but can he live in your garden til this gang get fed up??? That is really horrible!!! Poor guy!

not much else to say sorry x

Not that easy unfortunately. I live in a flat, so no garden. The other reason he can't live with me is I can't have visitors for more than x days a week/month and i'm not allowed to sub-let. I have said to him he is welcome to stay with me for a few days/nights, but I can't keep him (I was made redundant in March and am still out of work, so from a possibly selfish point of view, I can't afford it).

My sister is a childminder so that's a definite no as she can't have people staying with her for long periods of time without being fully checked. Also, he is convinced they follow him around the area so i'm not sure that would work either.

Don't be sorry, thank you for the reply :) If either was an option, we would happily do it.

With him living the way he does, the way he sees things might be different to the way they actualy are.
Sometimes we need someone elses perspective to help us make our minds up?
Maybe nobody is after him, and he dreamt it, you never know.

Apart from living in a tent, he leads a relatively "normal" life! He is looking for a job, he spends a lot of his time in the library (we have even suggested using the library to help teach himself a new skill). If you saw him in the street you wouldn't know he was homeless.

It's a possibility, but I don't see why he would make it up to be honest and carry on with a story for such a long time.

My brother has a story for everything, he went on for ages once about he saw a man up an alley putting a false beard on. I never believed him for a moment.

And another time my brother-in-law accused my husband of fathering his child ( I think drugs were involved there, he was a real nutter)

I suspect that your brother is in fact suffering from a form of mental illness as yet undiagnosed.

that's what I thought when I read your post - mental illness comes in a lot of different varieties....are 50 the poeple real?

Your brother sounds so like my friends son who has Aspergers. I believe there is an Aspergers support thread on this site.

Tell your brother to look into communes...they exist. There's one near Capel in Surrey - I used to visit a lady there when I was doing my GCSE's as she tutored me in maths. Commune is basically a gorgeous old, rather large house with nice grounds...don't know any more than that, I'm afriad :). Still, may be worth looking in to.

Definitely sounds like a mental illness, maybe a bit paranoid? (about the people after him). I'm not sure what you can do though, I would be worried too. x

I think he sounds mentally ill too, and perhaps you could look into getting him some help?

I have a friend who has paranoid delusions after heavy and prolonged drug use and she has just got help and is a different person.
