The Home consumer has two options, Home Basic and Home Premium, then 32 bit or 64 bit.

This might sound stupid, but what exactly is the difference between 32 and 64 bit Windows Vista? I'm on 32 bit.

Do you not think it's a fair assumption to make when you look at Operating System market share, where nearly 90% of computers are running versions of Windows?

How many PC manufacturers have offered Linux desktops alongside Windows ones? I've never known of more than a handful of people who've bought them.

The market demands Windows, and that demand isn't going to suddenly disappear.

I thought we were talking about netbooks?

And the market doesn't "demand Windows"; it gets Windows whether it wants it or not.

64bit vista can address over 4gb ram where as 32 bit can only address upto 4gb.

i'm sure its not the only one though

More per clock cycle can be done with 64 bit than 32 bit, whether applications take advantage of is another thing. Generally, you can expect a 10-20% increase in speed if you use 64 bit specific software.

Being an MSDN account holder I downloaded and installed Windows 7 Professional last week and after a week of using it I must say I am impressed, I am not the biggest fan of Microsoft but with this OS I believe they have got it spot on. The installation seemed to run pretty smooth although I had trouble getting my USB to work although you expect some hardware problems pre-release, but overall I love using it, maybe this has something to do with being stuck with Vista for over a year!

anyway I just wanted to add my comment, not sure if this was the right place!

Does anyone know when W7 will be on general release? I would use the RC client but at the moment I don't have a DVD drive, so cannot burn to DVD (but yes, I can do the other things Microsoft says you SHOULD be able to do - and am a girl - learnt off my dad and his obsession with overclocking PC's and building them from scrap) I also ask as I got Vista primarily for the W7 upgrade, due to it's (even in beta and RC testing state) greater stability and compatibility, expecially with slightly older machines and programs

    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
