Thanks anewhope, just tried that via the cmd prompt and after restarting I didn't get the usual warnings so it seems to have helped.

Downloaded "Windows 7 RC 32bit" last night.

Had no problems installing it via Bootcamp on my Macbook.

Only had a quick fiddle with it so far but I'm really liking the new Taskbar. Liking the new Icon based design(sort of Mac OS style).

Really like how you can hover over a minimized window and it opens up a thumbnail, which lets you preview the window in full, without having to open it up.

Also if you have multiple windows open, I like how if you hoover over one icon>thumbnail, it brings it to the front and makes all the others open windows transparent.

Quick Boot ups and Shutdowns very quick. But that is to be expected on a clean install with no third party software.

It will be interesting to see performance once you throw in all the Security software and also when it is eventually released, how some manufactures will mange to butcher it by installing bloatware on a new PC purchase.

Very snappy to use on my Macbook running 2.1Ghz Core2Duo, 4GB Ram.

Oh and the best set of standard wallpapers I've seen on any OS.

I'll add more once I get more use out of it.

Since W7 is going to replace XP Home on netbooks, it's no real surprise that it works fine, if not better.

Windows 7 Starter edition is going to replace XP on netbooks.

You'll be able to run up to 3 applications at once.

For OEM versions pre installed that is the case, but there's very few differences between Starter and the other SKU's besides the lack of Aero Glass and the three application limit. There's certainly nothing stopping you installing any version of Windows 7 onto your netbook, much in the same way that you can do so with XP Pro at the moment.

Sure, if you have the money to buy it. It kind of defeats the purpose of a low cost netbook though if it's going to cost you an extra £100 (or more) to get a fully functional OS on it.

Consumers will be able to buy a netbook with a crippled version of Windows, or a fully featured version of Linux. Microsoft are still living in a world where people can only buy a PC with Windows on it.

apart from netbooks which have cut down versions of linux. How many PC manufacturers / sellers actually offer a linux installation ? its either windows or no O/S installed.

Your average home user still expects windows to be installed on new systems...

Hopefully the fact netbooks use linux will spread to more mainstream desktops but I wouldn't expect it for a while.

Do you not think it's a fair assumption to make when you look at Operating System market share, where nearly 90% of computers are running versions of Windows?

How many PC manufacturers have offered Linux desktops alongside Windows ones? I've never known of more than a handful of people who've bought them.

The market demands Windows, and that demand isn't going to suddenly disappear.

Are you sure? I thought Starter Edition was replacing Vista starter edition, which was only really used in the developing world...

I doubt anyone will buy them if they have a 3 applications limit. According to this artical, any Windows 7 edition will run on a netbook so it's up to the OEM's what they put on there.

I really wish MS would drop the stupid varying versions debacle which peaked with Vista. The Starter Edition is a ridiculous concept. There should be one version for PCs and that should be it, regardless of whether you are a professional or home user - it reduces confusion and makes a product more coherant. Sure you can have different server OS options, but it surely would make sense, all the best technology in one system, less issue of marketing and producing different (disabled versions), trying to get the message across to consumers (who were utterly baffled with Vista options) easier to patch and update across the board. If Apple can do it with OS X, MS should be able to with Windows 7.
