Careful of salt on the driveway - we put some down on ours in the winter due to icy conditions and it affected the mortar btween the paving slabs.

Good evening CC Star. White Vinegar will kill grass, weeds and moss on patio's,paths and driveways. I have put the top from the washing up liquid bottle on the vinegar bottle,Use full strength - it works very well!
I am not so sure I would use it on the lawn though!
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

To kill weeds on a path you can use the hot salted water that potatoes have been cooked in.

I'm using sodium chlorate at the moment I put some down this morning as my weeds are really aggressive in crazy paving and paths well everywhere really but I'm using this just on the paths areas. Not sure if its going to work at all or for very long. I need a lot and it's going to work out quite expensive but is anything going to work better? Does the salt thing really work? how much per gallon should be used and I can't boil up all the amount of solution I'd need to use so would it work cold?
    Thanx

  • Had my front garden gravelled to cut down on mowing, weeding etc. and some weeds have come up through the liner and gravel. I Called the gardening man back who layed the gravel, and all he could say was, weeds have been around a lot longer than us and that I'd just have to weed them out. Tried a few brand weedkillers but no lasting effect. Can you recommend anything peeps?
:j This is what I'll be doing if I can 'kill' my weeds once and for all.

i find that roundup works for me. Also I used a heavy duty black landscaping fabric from Costco and doubled it up and it has never failed.

the only thing i have found to keep weeds away is the landscaping membrane as suggested above. also the only brand i have found to work though is called Mypex and it aint cheap

we put it down over roughly weeded ground, and then put about a 1" layer of shale on the top (gravel should work the same). we havent had to weed the area at all since we put this down (about 3yrs so far). however we do get the odd bit of bellbine, but this only comes up through the holes we have made in the mypex to put a plant in, and its minimal

you will however still need to weed periodically, as although you wont get weeds coming up from underground, birds and the wind, do tend to carry seeds, so you get the odd plant start to grow on top, but if you pull them up while still small, and before they get ahold, it shouldnt be too much work

Salt? Although I don't know of what quantity you would need to have lasting effects...

Paraquat if you can buy it is very good and kills everything for at least four years .But I'm not sure if you can still buy it anywhere.
