  • to get rid of the weeds on our gravel path I pour a kettle full of boiling water over them. Tried it once on the grass and it killed everything it touched, it sort of cooks the plants!!

Will it get rid of ground elder? I'm fighting a losing battle and am about to resort to container gardening :(

There's an alternative, very money saving way to see off ground elder...(yep, it's another Downsizer link, apologies, but it really *is* relevant!):

Thank you, all that time and stress and I never knew I could eat the stuff!

The downsizer site is now a firm favourite, If I'm going to be cursed with a 110 foot back garden I may as well put it to good use :D

Does anyone have any ways of getting rid of weeds?

They are sprouting up again in the gravel driveway, lawn and amongst the plants.

I have been pulling them but there are so many and they are really embedded, and just snap at the roots.

I have tried the spray weedkiller but it is quite expensive and takes a few goes.

Is there an OS way of getting rid of them, apart from pulling them?

I read that hot water or salt is good - is this true??

Yes, salt will get rid of weeds but of the examples you posted I would only put it onto your driveway as it could well kill other plants around it and contaminate the soil for a while I believe.

apparently vinegar can be used the same way as the salt but I think with the same precautions....

My OH says that salt rots the car - seeing as it will be used in the driveway. Is the vinegar neat? boiling or straight from the container or sprayed?

Sorry for all the questions, want to make sure all works OK

Thank you all for your help:)
