Sorry bit of a manic day at the phd war office front.

Hope you are all well. had a rotten day, horrible meeting with idiotchops supervisor and I spend the afternoon that horrible hot way with puffy red faced, tear pricked eyes - just thought to myself I will show you matey.

Pah to folks who can't be nice

Will catch up in a bit already missed MP- waves to MP - :)

Hi to everyone else - budgie thanks for soccring I am on 15 now - yup can't actually say I believe it but its true.

And as I was as cross as a bag of nutty weasels - I briefly thought about wine - but am needing to keep working and wine makes me paranoid and I don't want to be paranoid at the moment - hugs to you all.

Decided these headaches which are horrible are probably due to lack of water, so slurping back about 2 ltrs a day to see if it helps.

I've been on it since 8pm so that's why i've been quiet. :o total so far is 1 bottle of beer and 2 small wines ( i caved in and got some) currently on 3rd! going to bed after this though, so at least i may start learning moderation!!!:D

40sm & maz123 - The naughty bench is fine to be on now and again ;) - some of us are cutter downers and that is something to be proud of - we are trying to deal with our excesses & that is a good thing IMHO :D

We know we had a problem and we are getting it under control and so long as we are in control of IT and not the other way around ;) then we are doing just fine & the naughty bench is a safe place to visit so long as we all remain in control :D :j

Quite right. I would even go so far to say it is not naughty at all. It is the bench for normal drinkers. There is nothing naughty about drink normally, safely in moderation.

If you can drink in moderation, then that is great. The difficulty is that most people who have tendencies to abuse alcohol cannot, and thus they are on this thread.
If cutting down doesn't work, then it has to be abstinence. The cycle of a few days AF, then drinking, then AF then drinking etc got very tiring to me. I kept feeling i had let myself down so much, so I had to choose total abstinence.
Like the people who have periods of being AF, then generally prefer it that way.
And if you cannot stay AF for a period of time, then alcohol may play a bigger part in your life then you are willing to admit

    Hi there

I have just finished reading this thread (started yesterday - when I should be working) and raelly admire all your efforts.

A bit about me, I'm 34 and I probably drink on average a bottle of wine every day - more at weekends. This started about 12 years ago when I split up and moved out from an ex and thought it would be very grown up to buy wine and have a glass or two after work. The rest is history as they say.

Now, whilst I don't want to give up completely I am struggling with my weight (need to lose 5 stone), am trying unsuccessfully for a baby with OH (who also drinks alot) and have frequent arguments with OH over trivial things. I also struggle with mild depression and the one thing all these have in common is alcohol.

I want to aim to only have alcohol on a Friday or Saturday evening and even then in moderation.

So can I join please and put myself down for 15 AFD for the remainder of May - Mon & Tues this week have been AFD so can I be cheeky and count these and be on 2 AFD so far.

    xx

I recently joined this group & have found the comments very helpful. I am aiming for 12 AFD this month, done 5 so far. Good luck, Kudzo from Holland & Barrett very useful, heavy drinker for 20 years. Never had so many AF days in that period. I drink mainly at the weekend, rather than during the week.

Good Luck! We are all here in the same boat, some have long journeys, others short. (However, when somone says come in "Boat number 6,", your scuppered!)

    Morning everyone:hello:

A bit disappointed with myself for sneaking on the bench last night. No real reason for doing it - I think I was just having one of those days:mad:

I sometimes think when life is difficult that I will have a drink and that will make me feel better. - very rarely does . Sometimes you also think life would be so much better if I did not drink - yes but you still have to deal with the every day issues that life throws at you. I caught sight of myself in the mirror at work yesterday ( not a pretty sight) and I looked awful & really tired . I thought " why when I have not been drinking do I look worse than normal - I thought I would be all bright-eyed and sparkly, instead I am starting to look old and weary - must be the lack of vitamins that I usually get from all those grapes :rotfl:.

I don't really know why I like to drink . I suppose its a form of escapism.
I didn't really drink much when I was younger - only when I went out and never in the house. In fact when I was in my late 20s I got a new flat mate who had recently moved from London . She would come in from work each evening and have a G&T or a glass of wine and I thought she was very cosmopolitan:rotfl::rotfl:> i wonder how she is doing now - she may well be a member of this forum:rotfl:

I didn't take to motherhood as well as I thought I would ( always somehow imagined I would be a natural) . But 3 babies in 3 years was a bit of a shock to the system :eek::eek:. The eldest has slight autistic tendencies - so life can be difficult at times. He is currently afraid of laces - which the other 2 find hilarious so imagine what happens and it always ends up with 3 little boys in a ball on floor kicking and punching :eek:. Not always easy to deal with . But I am very very lucky to have them , people are always stopping me to tell me how gorgoeus they are and they are very very cute. I am a bit scared though about what they will be like in 5 -10 yrs time if I can't control them now.

Sorry folks I am rambling > need a cup of tea.

Have a good day . Catch you later

Yes I know what you mean GC. I feel quite relieved to get off the merry go round for a time.

I know I am not giving up alcohol forever but I do definitely need a sustained break from it just to feel stronger and more in control and to know that alcohol is not ruling my life and my moods.

I'm avoiding my drinking buddies for a while as when I stop drinking I cannot be around even the smell of alcohol as it makes me crave it too much but after a couple of weeks AF free the cravings subside and I will be able to go to a pub and sit there with others drinking and comfortably not drink.

To GC and anyone else that has totally given up I wondered what do you do to fill your time now? Whenever I have stopped drinking completely for a while I am amazed by how many more hours there seem in a day!

Today will be 7th day AF for me today Budget Babe.

I hope you are all having a nice weekend. :A I have some DIY jobs around the house that I am studiously trying to avoid doing. I think I might go and get some tea and toast and have some breakfast in bed.

Don't beat yourself up 40SM. 3 babies in 3 years, my goodness, stressful.

Me too! I looked in the mirror yesterday and I have massive bags under my eyes and look dreadful and I have been taking vitamins, drinking lots of water and not having alcohol for a few days. It's just not fair!:o:D
