Aww,love the dough face Jo! My wee kids are my pride and joy and my reason for getting my drinking sorted. Don't know why it took me so long but it has dawned on me just how dangerous for them that my getting blitzed is, i.e. if they took ill during the night we (OH usually drinks with me or is at work overnight too) would be incapable of driving for help- or ,to be honest, even noticing any illness as i am usually unrousable when drinking. How utterly awful that sounds .Makes me totally disgusted with myself and as I work in the NHS I should know better as I know how quickly kids can become really very ill. God.0

:wave:Hi Biglass and welcome to this very lovely and supportive thread...best of luck with your journey x
Jo, :rotfl::rotfl:to the yellow fingers, I think it looks like a very good face...ds always makes me laugh, last week he came out of art at school with a picture an it had straws on it and a bit that looked like a spider (to which I said nice spider) and it was meant to be a fire lol!!
Thanks for all your kind words about my little Olivia in the road.you are all so kind :A:A.I had a just over a half bottle of wine last night which I was unhappy about but I am pleased as It was gone by 8pm and I was tempted to pop out for more but realised I didn't really need it :j which is great....Have decided to make sure I sort of do a risk assesment with her now when we go anywhere lol
Budgie - so sorry to hear you are still feeling poorly- sending some dodgy :grouphug:
re the still feeling carp even though being af, maybe before everything was just masked with booze like sort of all our ills were outweighed by the carp feeling of drinking too much iyswim ..this months challenge of 'doing something different' is an ideal time to see if we can find something just for ourselves that might help with our general wellbeing - I am going to try a couple of classes at the leisure centre in the evenings (yoga I think)...or maybe try eating more fruit which may help with the sugar thing or perhaps trying walking or (and I like this one) going for a massage / facial with the money saved on not buying the wine/beer etc.
BHB I forgot to say I too have pool envy, your garden just looks sooo idylic lucky you...
Also the thing about not drinking when out with people you would normally drink with, I can soo relate to...I also think some friends feel uneasy if there is someone not doing the same it makes them look more at themselves (not in all cases obviously) anyway I would go with the 'i am driving so don't want to have anything at all' or the antibiotics thing..but your friends should certainly not be pushing you into drinking although I have found this to happen a few times...Last time this happened during a lunch and I didn't want to drink I just said I had a bit of a headache so couldn't face it...
Miss Piggy - love the school eye test story :rotfl::rotfl:

:hello:to Biglass, welcome.
I'm being verythis month. I just cannot get into the groove again after doing so well last month.
I felt really bad when I gave up alcohol for a few months last year, I felt tired and I gained weight and felt awful. It probably is the detox and after a while you come out the other side feeling fantastic but I never abstain long enough for that to happen. I do notice my sleep gets better when I don't drink for a while though.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

It's now a big ball in a bag in the fridge
I said if we could put it all away and tidy up she would be allowed to play with it when we get back from school, fingers crossed she forgets all about it :shhh: :shhh:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
I do notice my sleep gets better when I don't drink for a while though.
I agree that it does take a week or so for the sleep pattern to get back to normal and the vivid dreams to stop
I definately feel more with it now with 8 days under my belt, memory is still shot but I expect that takes a while to come back. I got up at 6.45am and then at 7.30am couldn't remember if I'd taken my tablet or not  thought I better not take one just in case!
Getting ready for nursery now, then I'm going to Tesco to do a big shop so I don't have to go out anymore today or tomorrow.
ETA: I've 'not spent' £40 in the last 8 days of not drinking, so I'm going to buy £40's worth of choklit in Tesco:D:D
DD2 just made me laugh, she ate all her cheese on toast and I asked if she wanted a banana, she said 'I don't like bananas anymore, but I do like choklit' with a hopeful look in her eye :rotfl: I said I'd go half way with her and she's now smearing a toffee mullerlight all over her mush just after she's got out of the bath, lucky she doesn't have her uniform on yet!!
Speak to you all a bit later....keep on keeping on, it gets 'easier' as the days notch up!

(Stands up.) Hi everyone. My name is Hopeful and I'm a thisthreadaholic! I have to say a BIG HELLO to Bigglass (great name). I was in your position just about a week ago and already with the help of the WONDERFUL PEOPLE :T on this thread, I feel my life is starting to change. It's amazing and I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks to everyone for their advice as to how I should handle not drinking tomorrow. I've decided not to take my purse so I won't be able to get a taxi and it's not worth spoiling an AF day for one glass of wine. Maybe in the future when I'm more used to it and confident in my ability not to take it too far.
Keep your chin up Orchid. I think little setbacks are toy be expected. It is life and we are only human after all. I guess the thing is to keep trying to do better. Someone told me once, if you keep doing the same, you'll get the same, if you do something different, you'll get different. Sounds obvious really doesn't it?! The "do something different" thing is the hard bit! Definitely try yoga, I've recently taken it up and it's fab! It spills over into other areas of your life too. I've resolved to do some on my Wii later, so if you promise me you'll try it, I'll make sure I do it too! Deal?!
Hi Priceisright. Good luck for your reunion with your friends. I've been in that situation beore. We've all met up, had quite a few drinks, had a great time, then the next day I can't remember what we were talking about! How's that for catching up with each other? Rubbish! I went to a friend's recently and I just kept topping up my wine glass with soda water, no-one said anything because I was constantly drinking. They were amazed when I got up and said I was driving home. It had been such a lovely evening that I didn't actually miss the wine. It would have just been an old habit. Let us know how you get on.
Jo, very cute!0 -
Back now ,armed with chocolate and cuppa
Thanks for all the welcomes! Hopeful34 - my username should have been referring to my wine glass  but it is meant to be "big lass" ! In otherwords ,a fat Scottish wumman, due to all the choc and tea for years:rotfl:
