I agree about the bathroom tiling. I'd be looking for a compromise, plain white tiles up to high wasit area, or on all the walls bar one and then a pretty flowered bathroom wallpaper on the rest.
You can have pretty towels, bath mat etc , blind on widow.

Frugalista, If the bathroom is all tiles it will just make things worse, tile round the bath/shower area and behind the sink to form a splash back. Tiles are cold and cause a lot of condensation. You need better ventilation and heat to solve the mould problem. Hope this helps.

I didn't know this, you learn something new every day eh!!!:T

  • Frugalista, try and get your OH to put in tongue and groove panelling instead. If he won't go for that brick shaped tiles look quite nice.

    Builth Wells by any chance?

Yes it is. Have you been before and if so is it any good? It's going to take us a few hours to drive there and I want to make sure that it's worth the trip.

I agree. My kitchen is an offshot on the back of the house and we have problems with damp, the whole back wall is tiled and in the winter the condensation just runs off the tiles and I end up with pools of water on the worktops. And that's despite always having the window open and trying my best to heat the room.

If I had my way I would remove the tiles but it's a rented house and I suspect they were put up to hide a multitude of sins.

Another in agreement here Frugalista, good ventilation will make a huge difference. Do you have an extractor fan at the moment?

I bought a lovely table at the car boot on Sunday and have spent the last couple of days sanding and painting it. Did the last coat last night so I'll try and get a photo this evening when I'm sure it's all hardened properly. I also bought a gorgeous glass cheese dome for 50p, and I've painted the base so it looks more shabby chic.

I can't remember whether I put the photos on this thread earlier or not, but I repainted my kitchen cupboards and they looked so different. Can put photos up if anyone's interested.

Actually, just had a quick look through my photobucket album and pretty sure I've not posted this before.

Sorry for the bad photo, it's the one from the original listing. I bought this dresser top/plate rack for 99p from ebay.

And here it is after I'd painted it (excuse the part finished kitchen, I should take a finished photo now really!)

If I have a piece of furniture I'm not sure what to do with I like to strip it down and sand it completely. That way I can see if the wood is attractive enough to keep as wood and either stain/varnish/wax or whether a paint finish would look better. I have never painted a dining table but I have either painted or varnished several occasional tables over the years.
