    Hi all,
I've been lurking for absolutely ages on the old style board and this thread and have been tempted alot of times to post,so now i've finally took the plunge and i've done it.
I know that you are all lovely people and the advice you give is invaluable,so i've gathered so much over the time i've been looking.
Anyway just to say that i am gradually turning my 2 bed flat into shabby chic with help from charity shops and freecycle etc. I recently put a wanted for a free standing coat rack, the slim ones but a lady asked me if i wanted a 6ft by 3ft one which also had an umbrella rack on it,its dark wood and beautifully carved, couldn't believe it when she dropped it off for me,its gorgeous.Good job had room for it at the bottom of my stairs(upstairs flat) because i was not going to let this little beauty go without a fight.
I'm going to paint it white as we've just decorated the stairs and landing this weekend and change the wooden hangers on it.
Sorry for the long post but i've got that excited that i can actually talk to you all

I am sooooooo Chuffed. I bought a pine dresser this morning. .

My first little project. i'm not sure wether to sand it and wax it or sand it and paint it cream and leave the top as natural pine. but i think i will sand it first and just see what the wood it like.

i can't wait to get started.
Lovely dresser JCR16 it'lll be lovely when you've finished. Can I just say that I usually leave the tops natural as they are the bits that receive the wear and I find the natural look more hardwearing than paint?

Also another vote for T&G although we used mdf panels halfway height around the bathroom with wooden mouldings on the top and papered above. It's been in a couple of years now without any problems. (Painted milk white then sealed with matt acrylic varnish) HTH:)

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

well after a night of the dresser in the house. the brass hinges are warming to me now. but the plastic/brass coloured knobs will get changed. however i am now starting the think i am going to sand it and just wax it. because the grain in the wood is a really nice. so i am hoping it will come up a treat. hoping if weather is good at weekend i can take dresser into garden and give it a really good sand down .

I'm not long back from meeting MSEer esmf73 who offered me this bureau a while ago. She found it at her local tip! She drove an hour to meet me and I really appreciate it. Its going to replace an Ikea desk we have in our dining room that the PC used to sit on. The desk has been trashed by the kids and as we now have laptops we dont really need it, plus I'm on a mission to replace any flatpack furniture I have left with solid second hand stuff.

Not sure what I will do with this one. Its odd because the drawer is painted turquoise inside and inside the cupboard has been painted yellow and stencilled! I am hoping to win some dining chairs from Ebay today, so if I get those I plan to paint them duck egg blue and recover. Maybe I will paint the bureau duck egg too. I do like the wood though.

Yes it is. Have you been before and if so is it any good? It's going to take us a few hours to drive there and I want to make sure that it's worth the trip.

No but I guessed because I had been planning to go to Carmarthen last weekend (didnt make it at the last moment) and just found out about Builth. I know there are quite a few antique shops around there though. I was thinking I might try and go if I am not heading North. I am in Ceredigion. Was it Carmarthen you went to.

Yes, Carmarthen. I'm in Pembs so Builth is a bit of a drive but hopefully worth it! I've never been to a big fair before :T
