  • I used to paint odd bits of furniture for my 4 sons' bedrooms too. The end result was matching sets. I aways used Dulux Satinwood and sometimes I would rag another colour on top which was very good at camouflaging any imperfections. I still have a large cupboard and filing cabinet done this way, painted in blue with a grey ragged on top, that has given me years of wear and now used for storage in the garage.

I thought this might be interesting to some of you - an idea for DIY cake stands on ashleyannphotography.com

there are other good ideas in the DIY projects list (though not necessarily SC); I love the couch made from 2 palletts and the customised cork trivets ;)

Glad you liked the soap, it was my first batch made from scratch so I was proud of the results. Must make some more soon for Summer & birthday gifts as it takes 8 weeks to cure...
Anyhoo, another couple of cupboards done in our kitchen, the dark brown is being replaced with Crown 'Champagne' cupboard paint, door by door as and when we had time. We also removed the kitchen carpet tiles (eugh!) so it's coming along nicely...
Lovely inspirational pics on here ladies - keep 'em coming - the white dresser with blue detail and the quilt were lovely! x

Thank you for all your replies!!

We haven't bought much for dd's room either. Bedside table was inherited from my parents and was in ds2's room, chest of drawers were mine, shelf was from the hall at our old house and she currently has one of my canvas wardrobes whilst we hunt for a wooden one. Dh keeps trying to pay £100 for some mdf thing........:eek:

We've just bought her a new bed and thought it would be nice revamp her room a bit. As we're renting at the moment we're a bit limited to furnishings and accessories.

This is the bed we bought and it's so lovely http://beds.monsterbeds.co.uk/epages/es106419.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es106419_shop/Products/MB-SERENE-YASMIN-GUEST-3FT .

Claire - noticed you're in Hampshire - I'm on the Hants/Wilts border and got a gorgeous bureau when I went to the skip in Andover today. I had to pay £5 but once I'd wiped it with soapy water and have waxed it it will look gorgeous - proper solid furniture - lovely. Just might be worth a look, thats all
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Oh I'm jealous now, I would love a bureau. I did get a vintage bevelled mirror today for £5 but would love a bureau to replace my ikea desk.

Well Tif, you might be in luck as OH came home and said that there is one exactly like the one I've just acquired at his Dads house that is waiting for us! When we know what is happening with our possible house moves and how much furniture (2 houses down to 1!) we will have I'll try and find you again. Where are you in the country? As I might even be able to deliver it!!
