  • Mrs M would use ntromorse (or b&q euivalent) to strip the old paint off and then spray with spray paint for even finish or paint with brush but find you get more drips on something intricate...make sure you let us know how you get on!!

If you just spray over the original colour and then it chips or you sand it a little so the under colour shows, does that not qualify as shabby chic??

Definitely use spray though. Its is very difficult to get in all the nooks and crannys with a brush.

Just popping in to say mum loved the quilt! I also discovered that sewing your handwriting (ie write with removable pen on fabric, then sew, wash et voila!) looks great! Have an idea for a project so will post when I've done it!

Hi, I'm new on this thread and was after a bit of advice.

I have some pine furniture that I want to paint white or cream and was wondering what paint you all use?? It's to go in my 3yr old dd's room so needs to be reasonably hard wearing.

    Thanks :D

Hi claire...when I did my bedside table I just sanded down and then painted with emulsion but there are some hardwearing paints you can use - hammerite is one I think but theyre uite expensive..worth a bimble round your local diy store...not sure if others have specific faves. HTH! Dont forget to show us piccies of before and after-nosy bunch we are!

    Hi Claire
All my daughters bedroom furniture (aprt from the headboard) is 'old' wooden furniture which I gave a quick sand down and I've used white 'satinwood' paint to paint them. I also used a mini roller to do it, it was much quicker and gave a nicer finish too.

Her bedside table was from MIL, chest of drawers from an Auntie of hubbys (she's passed away now), pretty bookcase from Freecycle and pretty small old wardrobe from a cousin. All were either dark wood or already painted. I changed the handles on some of them too.

I also painted a wooden pine toy chest and put a padded seat cover on it with pink spotty fabric for under the window.

Very pleased with it all - the headboard was in the Next sale (and is white!) and that and the bed is the only thing we actually bought for her room :) but it all coordinates and is proper solid furniture!

That sounds lovely, mrs fraggle!I love solid furniture but adore the white/cream colour scheme.I cannot believe how much sets like this retail for!!I'd love to do this to my 2 daughters bedroom as they have pine furniture which is a bit 90's.It's all 2nd hand from different places, not sure I have the confidence to do what you did though-well done!!:)
