came very quickly and in a thick sealed bag
which i have kept it in
i thought it was quite expensive before buying
but the dresser i was doing had 5 doors with detail
4 drawers
and i really did think about buying a new one, but this was sturdy and perfect for what i wanted it for
i was really pleased with it
that site is in USA - - did you have to pay any duty on it? Did it take long to come hun I have taken the plunge and ordered some0 -
Ooops - I think I've got everyone confused!
This is what I have -and it just doesn't feel like it's done enough to paint over the varnish etc.
This is what I think of when someone mentions ESP -http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/sp-44-10142-37388-esp-primer-1lt-makes-paint-stick-to-shiny-surfaces.asp
Sounds amazing, but I can't find it anywhere in the shops.
I almost bought this today -
which looked exactly like ESP but when I read the can it said only for use with oil based paint grrr,
http://www.international-paints.co.uk/products/info/wipe_on_multi_surface_primer.jsp
Still no closer, but I am testing the crabbys alcoholic ginger beer atm and I can recommend that!
Vikki - first one is the stuff i have, i just wiped it on and then painted over the topIt seems to have all gone on fine just wondering weather or not it will be withstanding as there wasnt a "key" like if i manually sanded!

What I don't get about the ESP, is if it's so great then why don't B&Q stock it? I want some but I want it today. I have today, Tues and Wed all day long to paint but I will miss the boat on that if I have to wait for delivery.
The boot sale was pretty poor today, but I did pick up an M&S dressing table stool with pretty pine legs for £1. It definitely needs reupholstering and probably needs new foam as it looks a bit gross, the fabric looks a bit mildewy so will have to remove it and take a look to see what lurks beneath but for £1, I was very pleased.
DS is currently engrossed in the Thomas jigsaws I got too!
DH is going to collect the wardrobe I won on ebay for £10.
Which is what I wanted the ESP for as it looks really shiney. I want to paint it white and blue to match his bedroom and maybe paint the cabin bed doors blue to match. At the moment he's just got a hanging rail in his room so I'm very pleased we finally have a proper wardrobe.0 -
Oh and while I was all caught up in the ESP excitement I forgot to say how lovely everyones makes were. Those dogs are going to have the poshest blanket around!
And the CK bags are gorgeous. I agree they'd be great for a change bag.0 -
Sorry, long time lurker here...
I have found ESP in the UK - its available from www dot nwepaints dot co dot uk (can't post links yet grrrrrr) (just search for ESP) and is £18.43/litre ex VAT.
Hope this helps

Rather than use ESP why not just use a wire brush? It takes any top varnish off nicely...a very swift go over with some fine grain sandpaper to get rid of any rough bits and you'll be good to go (I always use cheapie matt emulsion as an undercoat before glossing and it works fine)
I've painted over varnish before too, that normally needs 2 thin coats of "undercoat"."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
that will teach me not to use bookmarks OH has made
i have just trawled through all my "shopping" emails
and found it
i got it from here
http://www.drclean.co.uk/Shop/product.asp?strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=1&strParents=0&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=467&btnProduct=More+Details
and it was £27.60
sorry

Thanks Pooky, the varnish on the table was a nightmare to remove with sandpaper didn'ty think of using a wire brush, I did take it back to the bare wood though which I don't know if I needed to or not?
I also want to paint over melamine and metal which ESP would do everything I think so I will probably get some.0 -
This is quite a good guide, lovely shop too...
