vicki you must post a guide on your blog.

i saw the chicken door stops in LA when they were full price back in may. and thought i'd love one. but i like you wanted to make one , yet i thought i'd prob have to make a square one as making a chicken would be far too hard for me. but you have made it sound very easy. i could make one to match my table runner. think i've some material bits left.

not done much SC lately . however i have managed to sand the clock i bought and paint it. it bought a 1859 chaulky emulsion from BQ. it is a really nice colour. just slightly off white. very easy to paint and do. looks so much nicer. will post a pic when i get round to it.

i was hoping to get my dresser underway. but this weekend hubby is planning on working on finishing to build the kids toy room.

now let me pick your brains. i have plain cream calico type tap top curtains in my dining. they weren't expensive. under £20. but they are only a few months old. they are very long and i'm planning on taking the tabs off and sewing on a 3inch header tape. now i was thinking how can i use them to pretty them up , but tie them in with my dining room.

my dinning room doens't really have any colour scheme. it is cream walls, oak flooring, and antique pine skirtings, door, and furniture. the only colour i have is on the patchwork runner i made. but i do like the pale blue .

i am planing on changing the seat's also but again i'm unsure what to choose.

i did find a lush fabric but it was dry clean only and with 3 children and 3 cats , and me who washes everything even when it doesn't need doing, just because i've not washed in a couple weeks or so, this wasn't gonna work, lol.

so what ideas could i do to my curtains. i was thinking stripes of ribbon at top like this.

not the ribbon the tops but just the 3 bands of ribbon .

    Help !

Do you have any of the pale blue fabric you like in the runner left? If so you could put a band on the bottom of the curtains - then probably make tie backs with the same - just a thought.

i don't have that much left, but can buy it from ebay . did you mean select one of the fabrics or make like a patchwork band as the runner ?

but yes thats a very good idea. thankyou. i need all the help i can get. as i just seem to keep drawing a blank. i come up with an idea and it all guns blazing then i think 'oh i not sure'.

its hard is'nt it to have the confidence to go for it - I like the triple bands around but only just getting into sewing I would find it hard to make sure all three were perfectly evenly spaced if you know what I mean - where as having one band of something would I think be easier - well for me anyway to look balanced - you will probably be a lot more experienced than I am though. Are your curtains the same ivory colour thats in the runner if so I love the blue and white spotty fabric - if they are worlds apart in colour then I would make more of a zoom line for the predominantly blue ones - just a thought - I am sure whatever you do it will look fab - look at what a good job you have done with matching the fabrics for the runner!

no they are a completely different cream. the curtains are a real rich cream calico, however because it is calico there seems to be little flecks of darker in it. the runner cream is more of a pale off white.

but yes having the confidance to just go for it is hard. i thought i could buy ribbon of 1 inch think , 1.5 inch and a 0.5 in various pale shade of blue, rather than the same size and maybe do 4 or 5 lines of ribbon. but although i enjoy sewing, sewing in straight lines really isn't i can do ,lol. then i could always make some beaded tiebacks in pale blues. ( made loads of tie backs before so feel at ease making these, more than changing of the curtains, lol)

either the ribbons then or the band that you mentioned before - either sounds good - make sure you post piccies to show us the finished result - go for it!! What's the worst that can happen = unpicking it?...and the best that you are delighted with the end result - good luck!

Danemi - It's the LA blue toile wallpaper that was discontinued (I sulked for ages) but I found 4 rolls on ebay so am a happy bunny now.

JCR - What about applique along the bottom in a sort of random line of patchwork style squares? I think I said before that I love that runner but I really do! I think the ribbons would look lovely but be a right pain to get level, flat and equidistant. Have a go at the chicken though, the beauty is that none of the bits have to be perfect. I'll never get round to doing a guide on the blog but can give you some pointers if you like.
