I used an oak staining wax which comes in a tin, almost like shoe polish (but the tin's about 10 times the size)..I have oak furniture in the house that needs regular waxing/feeding so this works well - I apply quite liberally with a cloth, work it in a bit and leave for 20 mins then polish off....takes a few coats to get a decent colour but it buffs up well.

Looks lovely Bexbex, are you happy? What will you tackle next?
Pooky, I've just started following you, not that I get time to read blogs but hey! Lovely shelving unit too, what a bargain.

Gorgeous shelves hart. Jackie, I've used a melamine primer on built in wardrobes and it was well worth it to save the hassle and time of having to add extra coats.

Well we completed today, so I'm now officially the owner of my house. OH got a bit carried away and has ripped out the entire bathroom minus the toilet  we have ordered a new suite this evening though (pics on my blog), pretty MSE as it was much cheaper than I could find anywhere else (but still a big hit to the bank balance :(). I just need to find away to shabby chic and prettify around it all now!

Bexbex, the table is lovely, and the shelves are too Hart and Pooky.

I don't know if anyone is interested but I've a corner unit that I was going to put on freecycle but thought I would offer it on here first as I think could be shabby chiced up. It got damaged when I was moving house and one of the diamond shaped panes has broken but if it's being painted the door could be taken off. There's also a deep scratch on the bottom cupboard at the side but that could be easily filled. I couldn't get a photo of the whole thing because it's in the garage with loads of stuff in front.
If anyone's interested just PM me. I'm North Lincolnshire/ South Yorkshire.
