Bexbex, yes, go back a page or two!
Don't know how I missed that post! I go on this site everyday lol
Kitchen is looking fab! How are you finding the cupboards to paint? Have you taken them off to paint or just doing them on the wall? I'm so lazy when it comes to painting things I'm a bit worried mine will look rubbish!

wow I love this! My mum has the same unit in her livingroom so I can see what it looked like before you painted it. How long did it take you?
xx
It took 3 or 4 days as I was doing it in the evenings after work and letting each coat of paint dry overnight. I sanded it down with an electric sander and then did about three coats of paint. I used Crown Period Eggshell in Old English White (in real life it is more of an ivory colour). At the same time I also painted a very giant radiator cover/bookshelf combination. The chest of drawers was easy as anything in comparison to that monstrosity!0 -
I've just done the fronts so most have been left on. I'll leave them for a week or two to harden before taking off to do the insides. It's hard slow work but the rewards are so worth it.
DH gave me the go ahead to turn the bedroom all girly so I reserved a couple of the rose duvets from Argos. I think he can see how nice it's starting to look now so is less resistant. Or maybe I've broken his spirit?0 -
Anyone in Bournemouth, this is a fab sewing box, collection only.

Or it could be fab with a makeover!:A0 -

Bex - I painted my Mexican pine sideboard and was really pleased with it. I also took out the studs and changed the handles. I have (hopefully) inserted a picture below. I didnt take a before pic but it was exactly the same style as your unit. The only thing I wish I had done differently was put a coat of primer on before I started painting as in some places the knots in the wood underneath have stained the paint. I will just touch them up but wish I had sealed them first!
totally love this - you must be chuffed to bits with it0 -
Which type of paint would you recommend?
Essex Girl-you said you used emulsion on your chairs, followed by F & B tester in String-was that emulsion too? In my Homebase all the F & B (and other brands) testers are emulsion only. Some of you use eggshell, some satin, some waterbased, some oil based. Can anyone give me a few pointers?
Thanks
The emulsion was just a really cheap bog standard white paint that I had previously used for ceilings . Then I put F&B String emulsion on top, but I knocked the chair only slightly and a bit came off so then I did the F&B estate eggshell in Dimity. They only did emulsion testers in my Homebase.0 -
ohh thanks for all the ideas
I'm going paint shopping soon.
My only problem with the glass doors are they have horrible lead stuff stuck to them and it can't be removed so whatever I put in the back of them the lead will still be on there...
The floor and tiles are all terracotta so what colour do you think I should paint the walls? At the minute they're white(ish) lol
I've been looking at this webpge for some ideas, I love how they have done up their house

I've got a pattern I quite like in the glass doors of one of one of my kitchen cupboards, so I didn't want to cover the glass. Instead what I did was I lined the very back of the cupboard nearest the wall with a lovely wrapping paper that I found in a local card shop. Only took 2 sheets, so was really cheap and it looks lovely.0 -

Wow!!! I've got a lot of this range of furniture (including that same drawer unit) I'm very tempted to paint it now - wasn't sure how it would turn out but yours looks fab!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Thanks for all the nice comments - I was quite nervous about posting a photo. My favourite thing about painted furniture is you can buy things from different places but make them all match, this means i have been able to choose things that fit all my little spaces perfectly. I love the shabby chic look and am so glad that this thread has been resurrected!0
