  • Hello,

i have spent the past week reading this thread:eek:. To say i am hooked is an understatement. I have been out today and bought a few bits and pieces to get me started. Thought i would start with a simple makeover of some cheap notebooks i picked up from the poundshop and then try picture frames, boxes and so forth. Eventually hoping to learn the art of reupholstering and maybe restoring a few small pieces of furniture.
so, i was wondering as i am a complete novice i need some kind of reference. Can anyone recommend a book i could purchase which would cover the above crafts, and give step by step easy instructions. This thread has been wonderful, just need all the info in one simple to read book.

Gorgeous sewing box, shame about the table, I only started looking a couple of days ago.

I finally plucked up the courage to talk to DH about our furniture downstairs. We bought about 5 years ago our furniture that was supposed to be the stuff we kept forever. It's really big, solid and expensive but then we downsized our house and it's far too big for the space we have now. I can't see us being in a house big enough to accomodate it for several years...so I decided that after seeing the transformations on here that it was viable to sell and buy some cheap but solid replacements to do up, although heartbreaking to sell it does make sense.

    DH agreed!

I'm on the look out for:
    - round dining table that extends with a pedestal leg
    - 6 chairs

and something to out the tv in or on so small sideboard, or tv cabinet.

and maybe a small dresser, just because it would be lovely.

And finally I'd love a pretty headboard fora Kingsize bed.

Please shout if you know of any going super cheap anywhere near Chelmsford or on the route to Luton!

    Ta xx
I tried to pm you but your box is full. I've found something that might be suitable and is near me.

It wasn't to bad to be honest - well I made it an easier job than trying to be all authentic about it - I just removed all the old fabric and nails and pins and measured the various bits I needed, then cut cardboard to fit and covered it with fabric and used panel pins to attach it all.....the padded lid bit, again with cardboard was tricker to attach but lots of double sided tape and faffing around got me there in the end.

Ah, I have managed to feed my addiction tonight. Lots of lovely photos. Love your chairs EG. much prefer that material, Vikki your kitchen looks so much brighter and larger. Clever make on the coasters too.
PLEASE stop showing your beautiful sewing boxes, Pooky yours is just like the one I missed out on because I was dithering over the plant table at the same time.
