Frenchgirl..ive been doing some sanding too...of my little corner unit, in the garden today - by hand, so im shattered now.... lol. The wood underneath the original dark colour looks really good...so i am now thinking about waxing it instead of painting it and i may paint the two little knobs on the front white to jazz it up a bit.

  • MummyofTwo - I LOVE your kitchen, the feature wall is just gorgeous :)

Has anyone been to TK Maxx lately? Lots of lovely shabby chic/vintage style finds, DD and I went last weekend and i got some pretty bits to add to my kitchen, there are pics on my blog & flickr, link in profile hopefully!

All this furniture painting has made me desperate to join in, i'm on the look out for a small stool which i can paint to keep in the kitchen for DD to stand on when we're cooking or baking together, i was thinking a pale sage green? Anyone recommend any brand or shade of paint?

Hi ladies I was so excited today. I had managed to get out and get a manual sander and paper. Thought I would start to rub down my little chair (first project) this afternoon. First problem I couldnt get the paper into the sander LOL! By the time I had tried it a couple of times I was tired out (health issues!) so I guess my little project will take some time. Keep the photos coming I love seeing what everyone is doing. This site is my sunshine on a rainy day.xx

I'm coming out, slowly, of a long illness which has severely sapped my energy. I hate it. I find doing ten things, tiny things on a bad day, bigger things on a better day, gives me somethign to aim for. i.e. I break down house work into a room, and then break the room into : 1. windows, 2, dusting, 3. sorting one surface 4. sorting another surface 5. tidying shelves (which could be seen as a job with dusting, but breaking it down is a bit of a swizz to feel achievement) 6. hoovering, 7, cleaning door knobs 8. cleaning switches and sockets 9. plumping cushions 10. having a cup of coffee/glass of water ;) To ''healthy'' people things like plumping cushions are almost incidental, but if you have a list to tick off and no energy having smaller jobs is essential. If Its really bad I literally just clear ten things, of the floor/surfaces. That can be done in the length of a television ad break or song on the radio and makes me feel I've done something rather than nothing.:o

I realise you may be looking for something to recycle but this Ikea stool is excellent as it's really stable for the purpose you want.

It comes in natural, unfinished wood and can be painted any colour you want. I don't work for Ikea :D but I've got one myself and it's excellent.

On the subject of stools, I would dearly love an old-fashioned wooden lab stool for my kitchen. It's part to take me back to my Science A Level days and part because they're tall enough to use to sit at a worktop. I know I could buy new from a school supplier but, ideally, I want one that's well worn. Anyone seen any around?

I want something like this too, not necessarily a lab stool, a wooden one that can be painted. I ikea do one of those too, but I'm going to wait till I see something cheaper secondhand.

I used to have a tall stool to sit at when in the kitchen with my mother, and now, with the exhaustion issue I find things like jam making can leave me unnecessarily tired and achey, so something to est on occasionally would be useful. I really would prefer a round or oval one with hole in it, for carrying by the seat....when I was a child ur kitchen one was faded red. I wish we still had that one!
