as a giver, would not be interested in any sob stories- surely the whole idea is to get shot of stuff YOU dont want..?

as a wantee, would be nice to at least get a reply if goods gone- the 'taken' posts my not get approved for up to a day, or get lost in the never ending stream of new threads..

I usually send separate e-mails to those who reply to my 'offereds'. This last time I had over 40  Just don't have the time to reply to so many individual e-mails. We get around 3 batches of posts a day, and my 'taken' post appeared on the board an hour or so after I posted it. I suppose it varies from group to group though.

Someone posted a 'wanted' on my group a couple of days ago, and as I had the item and had been about to post an 'offered' ad, I took the time to write to them to say that I had the item if they wanted it.

I just got the following e-mail

" Yes I'll have it. Whats your address and I'll come round for it this weekend''

Ummm... I think we forgot a couple of things like....

"thanks for replying and offering me xxxx"
"When would it be convenient to collect it?"

That e-mails gone into 'Deleted' :p

LAMO, i'd write back and say...."watch out on freecycle for my advert for this item. You might like to take heed of the manners warning if you want any chance of me offerng it to you!"

Thinking about it some of my requesters have also been quite rude and mannerless they say like
    when can i collect ?

no request saying please would you consider me ?
I notice on our local freecycle site it seems to be the rage for requesting lap tops from parents for their children going off to uni - stating they wont manage to get the course work done without it !!!
Bare faced cheek or what ?

We've got someone asking for a caravan today, to keep in their garden so dad won't come in the house with his muddy boots on.

Couldn't he leave his boots ouside the back door? :rotfl:

Crikey! Would have to be a big fridge to fit three kids in! Might have helped if she'd included their sizes!

Sorry, couldn't resist that, was the way I read it!

I have to say I've only ever used freecycle once, to get rid of an old printer that still worked but I'd upgraded. I think the reply I got was one of those you mentioned, it never struck me about the please and thank yous! I think if I wanted something someone else was offering that would be the very least I'd write, do like the idea of writing about what it will be used for (if appropriate according to the item), but that's probably cause I'm nosy, but nice to know it would have a new life after my ownership of it!!
