You shouldn't have to use any proxies for NTL unless there is a specific website you can't get to and you've proved that its definately something to do with NTL i.e. plug your pc directly into the modem and see if its still an issue. Not sure if NTL use transparent proxies but as the name implies this is transparent to the end user. Think the advice buggu gave was the best.

I agree with above - NTL do use transparent proxies - which means it automatically routes all your traffic through a proxy server. Manually setting the proxy does not always fix my problem which is typically accessing ebuyer.com. I just hit refresh a few times and then it works.

Incidentally NTL will be switching their support off the freephone number soon.

We are also getting a bit OT here. Better for the tech forum.

Agreed, but the alternative is that you get dozens of people sending back their routers and threatening legal action over "non-functioning" equipment which only needs the DNS Gateway adding to the control panel settings.

Well I've been using one since 2004 and I just installed one for my parents last year and thats been rock solid. Is there anyone you know that could give you a hand to make sure its not something on your PC thats causing the problem?

I've had mixed experiences with Belkin, their network switch I have has been no trouble at all, the Belkin wireless keyboard and mouse went the way of all other other wireless keyboard and mouse sets in my house, used for a very short period of time then consigned to the car boot sale
Thanks to all who post constructively.

connecting the pc to the ntl cable modem work 100%...all stops only when the router is connected.

i doubt its my pc..coz i did have a peak bb router which i used for 3 years until i got this belkin and made life difficult. i did speak to NTL about this and they did give me the DNS and the 2nd'ary DNS addresses but they told me not to use it coz it takes it automatically. but i did use it on the belkin routers interface and the internet stopped completely. its packed and ready to go back. enough of speanding 14 hrs trying to work it..hehe..
