    can anyone help me please:

i have a NTL broadband cable modem and i used to have a wireless router (wired and wireless). my NTL cable modem wud connect to this router and cables (4 wired ) from this router to my other computers. botw i have changed to this belkin model but unable to connect. Some sites work and others dont. lets say MSE will work and all the links in MSE will work but if i try google.com or anyother site, they wont work and after i try those sites even MSE wont work....though all the lights and everything is fine. internet light fine solid, wired computer light is solid, the http://192.168.2.1 shows as internet connected but then whats the problem...

could it be something to do with the MAC address or the host name (which i havent entered) ? pls advice..i spend 9 hours yesterday behind and this morning i have started again...thank you

It could be something to do with not correctly resolving the DNS queries or it could just be faulty. Have you tried seeing if there is a firmware update for your router?

When I had a problem accessing some web sites but not others, it turned out that I needed to put a proxy address into my browser (under tools and options)
Thanks to all who post constructively.

i did..i went to the web interface of the router and did firmware update..there is a file to downlaod and then do update but it says the file is not compatible with router...could be that the router is faulty ? thats what i can think...

    I would try the following:

    1. Try updating the firmware for the router and ensure dhcp is default (tc/ip is set on automatic) and see if it helps.

    2. Try disabling your firewall and see if that works. Hope its not zone alarm has that can be a nusicance at times.
If it works then your firewall needs to be configured properly.

    3. Try accessing the sites without using the router and ensure your browser settings are on default.
If it works them its not a problem with the server or browser settings

    4. Reset the route and reinstall it again.
sometimes everthing work perfectly if you reinstall stuff.

    5. Try to ring belkin up for help if nothing working

    Hopefully shoudl get soughted.

Hi - have a look here - there is quite a bit of discussion about NTL and proxies and how to change it.
    Cheers,

I rang NTL technical support. In those days it always seemed to be a very knowledgeable Welshman, but I understand NTL's helpdesk has now been farmed out to India...

Yes some techie I spoke to referred to it as "proxy farms", which are supposedly quite popular with ISPs, don't know why
