Can I please call on your experience and whether anyone managed to have a UTI when pg but without the usual symptoms e.g. buring when peeing etc? I have a docs appointment tomorrow about it, as sometimes I am getting pains in the kidney region and after a pee sometimes and occasionally it has been a bit cloudy looking, but no burning like I have had before and the other night I had to go straight after just going etc. Just wondered......thanks0

jha - congratulations and welcome to the pregnancy club.
I am so jealous of skinty and MrsT, I have never had my nails done, had a massage, facial or anything! (Although, DH has offered on many an occasion to pay for me to go, I just think it's a waste on me. But I do feel inspired to have some pampering myself now)
Well, DH has booked a few days off work, and he has promised to take me shopping to get my stuff for my hospital bag. This is because a collegue of his who was at work yesterday morning, gave birth to a baby boy yesterday afternoon! So he is now worried we aren't prepared enough if I go into labour early (she hadn't decorated nursery and the cot/furniture had been ordered, but still not arrived!)Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set
Debt free thanks to MSE0 -

The woman did a demonstration of an epidural on one of the class, without the needle obviously. She had the drip, the thing for the epidural and the catheter hanging off her. It was not a pretty sight. I didnt want an epidural before and now I really dont want one. She said the catheter has to stay in for 6 hours after the birth and I would really hate that. I know the benefits should outweigh this but its really freaked me out.
Was this an ante-natal class in your own hospital or an NCT one? The reason I ask is that I had an epidural when I had my DD 8 years ago, and there was no question of having a catheter in at all, much less for 6 hours after the birth. With a mobile epidural for a vaginal delivery, you are able to get up and walk around, and go to the toilet to empty your bladder when you feel like it. Indeed this is encouraged. I also didn't have a "drip" as such. I had a tube running from my spine to the front of my shoulder, which was taped to my body so I didn't even know it was there, and when the epidural needed topping up, the nurse would come and inject more into the reservoir at my shoulder. You honestly wouldn't have known it was there, were it not for the pain relief.
I had my son by elective CS and this was a full spinal block, so did need a catheter, but that's unusual for a vaginal delivery I think.
If you don't want an epidural, fair enough, but if you do end up deciding in the throes of labour that actually you need one, you might feel better about it if you'd clarified in advance what your own hospital's procedures are. Some of the more natural birth minded ante-natal teachers are not above manipulating the truth a little to get all their mums on the same page.0 -
mook i had an epidural with all the extra and to be honest its not as bad as it looks or sounds i dont think i would of made it through without it at the end x

Can i join please? Its very early days for me (4 /5 weeks) and after a year of trying and 12 years together i am just hoping for a sticky bean
I am feeling a bit rough and nervous - i have been geting really bad cramps in my abdomen which wake me up in the nights (doc says it is something about bits moving around to make space) but i am very grateful just to get to this stage and am going to take one day at a time.
Anyway - Hello everyone!:j
Congrats! I am very early too and get cramps most days but no bleeding - i have been told that this is OK. Oh and as for nerves i am full of them.0
