Surely whenever a baby is not in a car seat it's in a moses basket, cot or pram anyway .

Are you asking in relation to the two-hour rule? I believe it's to do with the position they are in when they're in a car seat, which is very different to lying down and able to wiggle in a moses basket, cot or pram.

I haven;t bought anything yet really, but I intend to get:

    crib
pram (which doubles as moses basket)
    car seat
possibly a baby bath but I may just use the sink
    babygrows
possibly nappies (planning to EC, see earlier in thread!)
    muslins
    toiletries: baby wipes, etc.
some books to read to baby
    basic toys
    blanket
    hat
    baby nail scissors

    I think that's it!

So many unnecessary things on that list but if i had the money i'd be buying most things in sight :D.

2 prams, car bases, carrycots, baby seats, changing units, baby baths = none of this is needed at all! Obviously others like to buy all of this stuff and nothing says they shouldn't at all, i wish i could! But i'm going for a MSE baby :D:D (Not much by choice lol)

My baby will be very MSE actually :p (I could have spent a lot but am saving to have more time off afterwards)

Majority of stuff has been bought second hand and in fact that whole list cost me less than £70. :money:

2 PUSHCHAIRS (not prams) - 1 was a fiver and I couldn't leave it there. In fact I could probably sell it at car boot I do in June and make a profit! The other was a travel system and came with car seat and 1 base.

Car bases - one for me and one for OH. I have OCD and would worry that I hadn't put seat in correctly - this will give me more reassurance plus 2nd car base was £5!!

Changing unit - I get a bad back so no way I can put baby on floor to change. Also, it was a tenner.

Baby bath - £2 - not an extravagence

I think the carry cot is probably the only thing we didn't really need but at £5 2nd hand (but never been used) I couldn't resist.

Most expensive thing I have bought which hasn't arrived yet is cot £100 but comes with loads of room accessories and was reduced from £210.

This is the first of (hopefully) many babies so everything will get used more than once!

you'd be surprised what u can pick up second hand that's in new condition - check out eBay and car boots esp. for things like Moses baskets which they won't stay in for long!

I'm actually a snob so wouldn't buy anything that wasn't good quality and I only buy from car boots off people who aren't scallys!!! Like the ones that do house clearances and just chuck everything around and its all filthy and minging.

Like KT said check out IKEA as I think they have some smaller cots. The cheapest ones is about £30 - has 3 base heights.
