Despite what has been said on this thread it is still the case that most PCA assessments support the claimant, so please don't worry but do make sure you make it clear to the assessor when you perform each of the activities which cause you pain or discomfort of the pain/discomfort you are in. If you are actually having a better day on the day of the assessment you should make it clear that your performance that day is not typical and that your condition is variable.
There is a difference between the way someone moves who is pretending to be in pain and when they are in actual pain so I wouldn't suggest you pretend or exagerate the pain you are feeling however I am aware that some people, knowing their pain levels are more pronounced if they reduce their medical, do reduce medication prior to a PCA so that their response to pain is genuine. I am not suggesting that anyone puts their health in jeopardy in order to pass a PCA points threshold however there is a grey area when it comes to pain and what is or is not bearable by any particular individual. So if you feel such a stragegy may give the Assessor a better understanding of how much pain you are usually in this may be worth considering.

  • My doctor has just suggested I have fibromyalgia, and I am going for tests. To be honest I cried with relief that I actually had something real, instead of just feeling awful. As I am disabled the pain I was in was put down to stress and depression, which I suppose it is, but I have had 4 months of awfulness and couldn't understand it. Thank you for posting as at least now I know of other people who suffer with it too.
P.S. Have asked if we can have a board for disabled people where we can list freebies for disabled people, benefits, reductions, travel etc. Would anyone else find that useful? Please contact MSE if you would, they might do it if enough people want it, and if there is someone out there clever enough to run it!

Hope you get the result you deserve. Its ridiculous really that you go through all this trauma for something you should get without question and isnt even enough to adequately live on but nevermind

    Good luck!!!!!!!!

Every day above ground is a good one ;)
  • Yup it does exist.

Just to clarify from my ealier post.

My friend telephoned Job Centre plus, and they sent another form out. Basically it's asking what benefits she receives and whether there are any changes in her circumstances. It's a very brief form, and i think it's just to keep their records up to date.

hope this helps anyone who receives one of these forms in the future.

    anybody heard anything yet
  • Can I just point out that whilst there are many many genuine cases of people with genuine conditions/disabilities- i'm one- there are even more people who claim to have a health condition and simply do not!!!! It is unfortunate that some genuine cases do get found fit for work, but there has to be some way of "helping" those who do NOT need to be on benefit, off it!!
Please dont all get angry with me for this post, I'm disabled and I work, I'm the lucky one.....if you can call it luck
