Yes definitely clear the default before applying elsewhere. Especially if its a meagre £55!!
So you have a Barclaycard in an arrangement to pay (i.e. non defaulted but in a special arrangement)? Well worth bringing that back in order and asking nicely if they could re-instate the account

Hi everyone,
Always read the posts but don't manage to pluck up enough courage to post!
Just had to tell someone that I've been approved for a Vanquis card today! I know its not the best credit card to have but I've was only discharged from bankruptcy about 2 1/2 years ago so its a way of improving my credit rating.
I was thinking that if I use the card to pay for things like fuel or groceries and then pay it off in full each month will that improve my credit rating over time?
ALso, if I dont actually use the card will it make a difference to my credit score? Will just having the card improve my credit?
Please advise!
Many thanks0 -

How long does it normally take for them to make a decision?
Barclaycard was a referral but they decided the next day. Cap 1 might not though as they've searched my Experian as well as Equifax, so... well... different informationCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

LOL I would imagine there's little to no point ever reapplying actually because a Capital One Classic was written into my bankruptcy order back along... so they've probably pre-declined me, if such a thing is possibleCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

They cannot pre decline you but they do check old account history prior to agreeing any lending - all banks do. So if its within the last 6 years then you may struggle but to be fair, Crappy1 aren't called that for no reason are they.....2010 - year of the troll
