I agree with TheEffect, SKY tv do not search / report to CRA.;)
    Interesting......

The reason I thought this is because a friend of mine has a £50 limit on his services. So on occation he cannot make calls on his landline or his BB is restricted. When I asked him he had this in place, I was told that because he had a bad credit rating...

TBH I dont have sky and if you lot do and didn't get credit checked then its all good. ;)

I would assume that the would report if you defaulted tho?

    not so sure about that.

o/h,many moons ago, closed her account but disputed the last £40 they billed her.
to be honest sky were probably correct.

they sent collection letters over the years.they also sent all is forgiven come back letters

anyway the point is she took out a large package at her new address whilst the collection letters were coming to same address.and had a bad credit rating.

think a phone line and method of payment take presidence.?

    Are you sure?

I am pretty certian that they search and report..

I know for a fact that Virgin search and report.....

Mate Sky don't search CRA's but they do an internal search to see if you owe them money from a previous account/address etc.

As already mentioned, a landline is suffice as BT usually check you out so maybe they go on the fact if BT trust you, they should? But 100% definite that Sky neither search or report you to the CRA's unless you default with them.

The disclaimer (How we use your info) posted above is their way of covering this fact, that if you default etc they can and will share your data.

TBH Sky shouldn't be allowed to report as the contract has nothing to do with CCA 1974 and as there is no credit involved, this should be the reason. You actually pay in advance with Sky, as you do with your landline phone and that is the reason that utility companies never used to share data with CRA's.

Nowadays though, the major utilities (i.e. British Gas) have started to share data but I disagree with this because again, you are not receiving any credit - well technically you are because you pay in arrears unlike Sky TV / NTL / Telewest etc etc

With Sky, you can easily run up £100s bills using their interactive services, box office movies and other such channels, so there is some credit involved. They're giving you a service before you've paid for it (box office movies and such services are put onto your next bill).

You can only run riot with this if they have your card details stored - they are not charged to bill anymore......

Well mine aren't. I have sky in every room and 2 HD's and my base payment is £93. I then order maybe 2-5 movies a month which all come from my visa card. When I wanted to order one, first time round, it asked for my card details and now when I want to order anything (including adult stuff) I enter my PIN (last 4 digits of viewing card) and it tells me the price and then I press select and it starts playing.

It never goes onto my Sky bill. This is always £93 per month

Virgin Media gives each account a "credit limit", just like a credit card and if your monthly bill exceeds the credit limit, they disconnect the services.

My credit limit is £100 for Virgin Media and one month, my bill exceeded that so they disconnected all of my services without notice. I called, paid and they reinstated it all.

OMG - that's shocking mate! So can they increase this 'limit' then? I assume if you use that amount a lot and pay it on time they would do.... however what i'm trying to point out is that it would not confirm to the CCA which inevitably means they should not really be allowed to class it as 'credit' meaning that they should not really be allowed to 'report conduct' to a CRA.

As I say though, most of them don't anyway unless you fall into arrears/default with them. Although British Gas are starting to report - however this is a weird one cos it cannot work, look at those that pay a set amount each month - it would always be in arrears unless you start paying in advance which you can'y phyically do - catch 22 :confused:

That's odd. I can run up a bill as much as I want and it all just appears on my next statement. They take the money from my account by Direct Debit.

''How will I be billed for Sky Box Office?
The first time you use Sky Box Office you will receive a paper bill. After this, you will not receive any further statements for Sky Box Office bookings unless you specifically request them.

Charges for movies or events are automatically billed alongside your normal monthly subscription. If these charges are applied to your account within 14 days of your payment due date, these will appear as an amount owing from last month. This gives us time to tell you of any changes, and gives you time to make sure the correct money is in your bank account before your payment due date.''

Actually, I'm not sure if they would increase the limit. I've had Virgin Media for about 3 years and it has always been at £100. I've never tried asking tbh. I believe you pay 1 month behind on Virgin Media.. its odd how they work.

When I receive my bill, say.. £60 for example. It says it'll be taken by direct debit on xx day. Any calls I make AFTER the bill has been issued will still continue to accumulate on the "credit account".

So, perhaps I make £45 worth of calls 5/6/7 days after my bill was issued, that'll take me over my credit limit and they'll cut me off. I'd then receive a phone call asking me to pay the specific amount to bring it back under the limit.

It works exactly like a credit card. They don't report to CRA however.
