if you go to self service till, and you scan high - is this kosher?

I mean, your scanning the wrong code by accident!

Ignore that - i assume the till will panic as the weight will be wrong?

No, the weights aren't programmed in.

Look out for bargain items from Ireland that seem to have been shipped in to quite a few stores. I've seen them in N Yorks and Derbyshire. I bought a four pack of Duracell 9v batteries and the oversticker wasn't over the barcode, so it was scanned at £9.99 - lovely £20 back!
  • Is it just me or do others notice that when there are good offers on there is often non there and the space allocated behind the offer sign is not even large enough to hold the items that are supposed to be on offer. Go back the next week same items full prices and there are loads of them?

    Sharp practice?
I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!

    DTD means "double the difference"

When you go to get your refund from the customer service desk, there should be a massive wall board with tonnes of writing on. Scan through to the part which has the heading "what to do if things don't add up" it explains the DTD to you.

Then when you speak to the sales assistants, mention "I am quoting you on your double the difference scheme". If they say "you what" this is the part where you roll your eyes (very obviously) ask them if the are sure they know what they are doing/had their weetabix this morning before pointing you the board which stands behind their back.

They may take a few mins to read through at this point. If they refuse you your DTD, then resquest from them their name and the number to head office customer service which you type into your mobile phone, let them know your going to call them right away.

Worked for me anyway. Just keep calm, be polite (don't really do the rolly eyed thing- well maybe only if you feel they are being nasty or condescending to you!) and you have every reason to get the result.

And go with them to show them the price ticket so that it does not magically vanish when they go to check the sel.

Or do what i do and take the SEL off the shelf and take to CS with me!"!
A home is not a home ..... without a dog
  • Or you can take a picture of it on your mobile phone, then if the CSA decides to try to get out of it you have proof. If they question the picture tell them you find it the easiest way to keep a record of the offers so you can check your receipt!!

It really is best to go with them to check it though - some CSAs do have a habit of losing the SEL.

They're £1.90 each or buy 2 for £1.50, the black peppercorns are also included in this deal.
