The policy baord states " if for any reason you are overcharged" no grey area IMO.

I think you are incorrect. I believe the wording on the board is:

"If things don't add up - In the unlikely event you are charged more than the price on the shelf or product we will refund you double the difference"

    Courtesy of Ex Tesco http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1664973

So in fact they only promise a double the difference refund in quite specific circumstances.

    :jMy first DTD today :j

    10 Bottles of 300ml Budweiser £8 Each - two for £12

Went through at £16 at Checkout

Followed girl to SEL - she asked what the date was and then tutted - removed the offer from SEL and said they'll sort out a refund - on the way back I said "Don't you promise double the difference?" - She said "yes - I don't blame you for getting it" but that I had to go through checkout and then go to the CS desk to get it - Got £8 back - think I did everything ok (apart from going back and buying loads of Bud first)

No idea if its a countrywide misprice or what but it made my day :T

These packs are now on a 3 for £20 offer, so if you had bought more packs, you would have shot yourself in the foot. For example, if you bought 6 packs you would have been charged £40, which would have still only been a £4 overcharge.

The OOD SEL for the 2 for £12 offer to look out for is on the packs of 12 x 330ml bottles of Cobra. These packs are now £10.48 each with no multibuy offer, so with DTD, you would get 24 bottles for £3.04.

Today, pack of 2 Silentnight pillows (barcode ending in 4077). Two SELs, one £6.26 the other £7.83. Charged £7.83 so DTD refund of £3.14 making the pillows cost £4.69. Look for those £6.26 SELs!

Thanks for this, but it is effectively 500g Utterly Butterly for 75p if they gave you the correct DTD refund.

I recently was overcharged for toothpaste and was refunded in full for the items I had purchased and then given double the difference on top. Is this the normal procedure?

No - but a lot of how Tesco staff interpret their own policy isn't 'normal' either.
