Just wondered what the best deal was that anyone had managed to negotiate on a hyundai i20?

Also just to mention to all the people thinking about an i10 that it didn't do brilliantly on the NCAP safety testing - high risk of chest trauma in a crash.

My dealer seemed reluctant to sell me a red classic, 2 other dealers refused. Reading other forums, the most I've found that anyone has got off on a non scrappage deal is £700, so as they're knocking £2400 off I'd be very surprised if there's any room to negotiate. Admittedly I didn't even try. Someone on this forum managed to negotiate a full tank of petrol on a Kia Picanto, maybe that's possible! If you buy non red and/or a higher spec model you may have more chance. Good luck.
As for the NCAP, I'll be very interested to see the results of the i20 when they are released, mind the i10 still scores much higher than my old escort, makes me think I've been driving a death trap all these years!
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

Went to a VW main dealer today. Beautiful black "new" 2009 Golf Plus SE 1900 diesel there with all the SE options. When I asked about scrappage they said it was not applicable as they had already discounted the car by over £2k. Now Ive just been looking on the web and I see the model they had on show has been superseded, hence the reduced price I guess, although I did ask him why they had reduced and he said they had bought in a number and were selling them at a discount because they had bought a batch.

Bit underhand of them I feel. Im now having a look on the big autobel type sites to see whether I can find the Mark 2 at a good discount AND scrappage.

The scrap scheme cant be combined with discounts
I think it might be best when the new car comes with a 5 year warranty or maybe free finance, that is a form of discount by another name

Ordered a i30, told that the Scrappage vehicle must now be taxed at time of exchange as well as MOT'd,this means that we would lose out £50 refund. Anyone else discovered this, no one can refund the tax as it can only be refunded to the owner!

I hope that you looked at the Kia Ceed, it is effectively the same car as a Hyundai i30, but has a longer warranty.

Kia are giving £2400 off of certain models without any scrappage scheme.

Looked at Ceed and the very similar Hyundia i30 today to check seating position. With the Ceed you cannot see the front bonnet at all - front window has a view of clear empty space in front. The i30 leaves a thin sliver of bonnet to be seen, and the 2 sculpted bonnet edges that make the front of the car look narrower than it is... had not thought of this fashion change. These observations made on both cars with highest practical seating position (salesman says, most new cars are like this now and front + rear parking sensors are recommended). For a 6 footer, the i30 front leg room seems a tad better than the Ceed's - not sure not a 6 foot 2 person would like it.

How easy is it to get used to cars with no edges? The idea of another used Vectra is looking more attractive now.

Oh, one other thing: With Kia, you can have the car serviced at any VAT registered garage (an I presume also, lone mechanic/tradesman) and preserve the warranty so long as parts are Kia. Salesman also said that the 7 yr warranty is a 'bumper to bumper' one, not just the final 2 years for the drivetrain only as I had thought.

7 years? Thought it was less
All Kia Picanto vehicles are covered by the following warranties:
A three year unlimited mileage warranty
12 mths roadside assistance package that covers you across mainland Europe as well as in the UK
    A six year anti-perforation warranty
    A three year paintwork warranty

anti-perforation means it can have rust just not an actual hole

Kia Picantos still only have the 3 year warranty. Ceed's however have a 7 year warranty.

Same applies to all cars, not just Kia's.

As long is it is serviced to makers specifications.

Add this is where the problems can start. To makers spec means not just using normal parts like filter etc but also using the same oil. It's absolutely fine unless something major goes wrong then if the manufacturer can find a way out they will. For this reason the vast majority of people who purchase new cars have them serviced at their authorised dealer until their warranty runs out.
