half interested in the picanto. Where would it be cheapest to get a loan for this £4k? Is the dealer usually ott? Ta0

We've just put an order in for the basic white 1.0 Kia Picanto
Scrapping my 2 litre Renault Laguna which I've had for 5 yrs and bought for £350 - MOT is due to fail in August so we figured why not go for it.
First kia place we went to said £4195 + £149 delivery charge (compulsory)
Second kia place said £4195 and no charge. So we went with them.
Delivery is expected to be mid July we were told.
The next model up (Chill) would be extra £2000 but the extras (air con, 2 more electric windows, remote for the central locking, 0.1 litre on the engine and metallic paint) didn't seem worth it to me.
So my yearly road tax will go from £200 to £35
and mpg from 35 to somewhere between 48 and 64 if you believe the spec sheet.
I have lost a lot of boot space though, but gained a cd/mp3 player. Nice!0 -
Ordered a Toyota Aygo a couple of weeks ago and am due to collect it tomorrow,so booked a day off work. The sales guy from the dealership phoned this afternoon to say Toyota have instructed them NOT to release any cars under the scrappage scheme. They are still ironing out differences between them, the dealer and the manufacturers.:mad: and double :mad:.What an absolute fiasco.
I feel like calling the whole thing off but I have paid a £500 deposit (by credit card) and signed the PCP forms.I hope they sort themselves out soon.0 -

Surfsister,
As a basic rule of thumb, any finance arranged by the people who are selling you the product is usually overpriced; whether it's a car, a washine machine or a house!
The finance deals you can get are so dependent on so many variables; income, credit history, etc., that it's impossible to say where the "cheapest" would be; but if you click on the "Cards / Loans" Tab at the top of this website, you can input all that you want and out will come a list.
The cheapest I could find was 8%; but what I am going to do is borrow the money I have saved for my children (which is earning a paltry 1% in their "savings" account), and pay it back to them over 3 years at an average rate of 3%. They win and I win; so everyone's happy. If you have savings earning no interest somewhere, then it would almost certainly be better to use these and repay them.
As an alternative to a loan, you could get a Barclaycard "simplicity" credit card from the Barclaycard website; this allows you to borrow on it at a fixed rate of 6.8%; cheaper than a loan, and you have more flexible repayment options. However, they gave me a credit limit of £2500, which is well under a half of any other credit card I've applied for; so you may not be able to put the whole car on it.
Hope this helps,

Hi folks, I wonder if I could have some advice!
I've got a car that is eligible for the car scrap page scheme, it's a estate car, 1.8 diesel, so I'm used to a car with lots of room!
What I would like to get, is a small car, 4 door, that has low enough emissions to be eligible for the £35 a year road tax, and is in a low insurance group.
I've been looking at the Fiat Panda Eco, which looks ideal, but the only problem is the ncap rating is only 3. I have a 3 year old so I want the car to be safe as houses!
Is there any other cars that might fit my criteria?
Also, would the scrappage thing suit me? I wouldn't have dreamed of buying a new car normally.
I spend a fortune on my old banger though, I would save automatically £165 a year road tax, and I've checked insurance group and that would £100 year cheaper.0 -
Went for a test drive in the new Toyota IQ , Loved it .
I have a v reg Ka which i thought qualified no probs.
When they checked my car for eligibility for the scrappage scheme i missed out by one day !!!!
My car was registered on 1.9.99 .To qualify had to be registered before 31.8.99 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas how to get round this ? I know i can get a micra as the scrappage scheme on nissan is for cars 8 yrs or older but i would like the IQ now i have driven it and the road tax is nil !!
The garage aren't shifting on the price .

The rules are clear and the same for all makers;

Sadly your car does not qualify.0 -
Read throught the existing Car Scrappage thread, lot's of info there.;)0

Basically the cut-off point is 'T' plate cars
Dont know how nissan are offering any different, unless they are prepared to stump up the £2k themselves, and not actually use the governments scrappage scheme - just a sales tactic offering £2k discount

The Nissan scheme for 8-10 year old cars is funded solely by Nissan and only applies to their UK made vehicles.0
