B&Q Barcelona Hammock recall

I have never had a single thought about my hammock and what happend to me last year whilst relaxing in it until seeing my dad today when he mentioned he saw a recall in the paper.
Last year mine collapsed on me whilst my 5 year old daughter was stood next to me, snapping and hitting me on the head, blood! never seen so much, claret everywhere and a nice scar to boot, but even worse is the distressed look and tears on my darlings face.
I bet B&Q will not pay for that, i took to repairing mine, dismanteling and cutting back the rotten wood.
It is now at the bottom of the garden, i cannot see it getting used again, if i go near it my little girl runs of and i bet the next section of rotten wood is ready to go, wonder where that would hit and the other end, might save having the snip.

Where does it rot then? Ours was living in the back of the garage after I enthuastically bought it for a barely-built house. It only came out last summer.
My friend was hit in the face by a loo-roll holder that fell of the wall in House of Fraser - she took photos of it and sent them a complaint letter and they offered her £1250! I think it's insane, but she did have a nasty cut to show for it. Surely if they are recalling the hammock then they know that there is a liability and that they are trying to prevent future hurt to people, and to prevent people like you from subsequently suing them for selling expensive tat?
Whilst I don't necessarily believe in a blame culture, I can't believe there's so much evidence on such a random thread! These people do purchase product liability insurance and it is desgined to be used. If someone has suffered scarring as a result of a proven-floored product, it's worth following up at least with a letter. Admittedly, if it was my son, I'd have assumed it was his fault for breaking it and it would have ended up at teh tip without another thought.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I have taken mine down each winter & stored it in the shed. The wood seems fine. Are people leaving these outside over winter to get the problem? I will be really upset to take mine back, even if I do make a profit on the money I paid!0

I got full cash refund yesterday.
I really wouldn't use the hammock if I were you, ours was left out during the winter (for 1 winter only). It really isn't worth the risk imo. Why don't you get your money back and buy another one - one that has appropriate weather proofing. Even if you put it away for the winter, it still rains a lot during the spring and summer - causing the wood to rot. Ours was totally rotten - only we didn't realise till it snapped and cracked my neighbours Daughter head open! (see above post!).
I doubt we shall ever get another hammock - put us off!

B&Q in Wigan are not accepting the canvas only :-( I called in today and they asked for the the entire hammock. Told them they could pick it up if they wanted & it seems they are willing to do this. Not very helpful in my opinion. Also, advertising the help line on an 0845 number is a bit of a scam! It is surprising that they run what must be an expensive publicity campaign only to be awkward with customers!0

They should accept the canvas - when I rang the helpline on Monday, they told me to take the canvas only. Did you speak to the Deputy Manager? - that's who I was told to ask for instore.

I'm pretty sure you'll have been told to ask for the duty manager not deputy manager. The staff might not know who to get if you ask for a deputy but they'll know who to grab as duty manager and theres always one in store. The duty manager is the most senior manager in charge that day.0 -

For anyone who still uses the hammock that's being recalled, I noticed b&q are currently selling a metal framed hammock in the sale for £50 iirc.
Get this as a replacement and you get a stronger and longerlasting hammock and £50 to spend on pimms! (or to put in the piggy bank of course!)0 -
I made the call to B&Q after making my post last week(No 13) to get details what i should do to return my hammock, to my surprise they told me my hammock was the Winchester because the colour of the steel supports are grey and my hammock cloth should be blue and pink, they then informed me that these Winchester hammocks are not on recall.
I informed them of the previous accident and told them that i think there was a design fault with it as there are no weep holes in the steel section to allow rain water to run free from the area the wood slips into the socket, they have given me their risk management department to write to but its look like i will not get a refund at the minute because my hammock is a different colour.
Has anybody else come accross this issue.
thanks
