B&Q Barcelona Hammock recall

B&Q are recalling the Barcelona garden Hammocks they sold between 2005 and 2007. (Details on the B&Q site, diy.com) I have one of these hammocks but I can't remember exactly when I bought it and no longer have the receipt, so I don't know how much to expect to get back. Apparently it depends on when you bought it! Has anyone taken theirs back and if so how much were they refunded? Thanks for any help!

I've got one of those too. Wasn't it about £100?

Spoke to customer services as well and they said just to take the canvas back because the frame is too cumbersome. She said as well it depended on when you bought it. I'm trying to remember! It was either 2005 or 2006.

  • Last week one of these collapsed exactly as described on my mother (63 years old). The wooden support guillotined down onto her legs and she was luckily not too badly hurt. It had rotted the wood exactly as described on the recall (where one of the fixing bolts goes through). I would take this recall seriously and get rid of yours.

In terms of how much you'd get for it I would suggest saying you bought it in March or April of 2006 or 2007. Garden furniture is usually more expensive at the start of the season and gets reduced in July/August. With inflation I would expect the hammock to be most expensive in 2007 but who knows?!

I will be returning the hammock canvas in a couple of weekends time, so please let me know how much they offered you.

    Thanks.

I went yesterday. They didn't ask me when I bought it. They refunded me £99.98 which is what I thought it was. Initially only wanted to give me a credit note because I didn't have a receipt but I told them that Customer Services had said I would get a refund regardless of having the receipt. They checked with someone else who said it was fine and then refunded my debit card.

My friend got £99.98 without a receipt.
  • Hi,

My hammock broke on me 2 weeks ago, and I only realised about the recall yesterday! We've called the customer careline and they've advised us we need to take the canvas back to get a refund, however they need to know when we bought it. We paid the full £100 for it, but i've not got a clue which month. If anyone has taken it back and been refunded the full £1oo please can you let me know what month you told them, as aparently they were selling it at £30 at one point. Thanks

I was told the same by customer services but I wasn't asked at all at the branch.

Would have been interesting because I can't even remember which year it was, let alone which month!

Just seen a recall ad in one of todays papers for this.

We used to have one of these untill it broke when our neighbours 9 year old Daughter was in it at our house, splitting her head open! she ended up in A&E with stitches in her head (thankfully there was no lasting damage, but gave me a terrible fright!!).

Obviously we ended up taking it to the skip as the wood was totally rotten and put us off hammocks for a long time!

I'm going to give B&Q a call tomorrow or Monday if they are closed. I wonder what my chances are of getting a refund though as I don't have the hammock anymore and no proof of purchase.

Me again, was thinking about this last night and remembered that we have photos of people on the hammock (before it broke). I wonder if this would be good enough as proof we had one?

Proof of what? There was one in a garden and you took a photo of it.

Zippybungle, I think you should call the customer service number on the recall, they will be more helpful than anyone in branch. Maybe you can find a way around it with them.

No bank statements at all with B&Q on them? The wonders of internet banking meant I was able to pull the purchase of a table several years ago for my insurance.
