Not at my store and it was included in the bulletin about it that only the canvas was required unless they changed it since.

Hi I just seen this this am I did a search on hammock for b&q. This came up that it was a product recall. I had this Barcelona one which broke on me twice. After the first break I moved the support beam
up a notch and then used it for another summer(not the brightest thing to do but loved it so much). Then the second time it broke it's end was bucked under the decking and hammock binned. I took the remains to b&q today......

My hubby and manager nearley head butted each other ad they were saying wee needed the hammock part which we had binned after we were both knocked on the head and fell on backs on the cross bar twice. I was so cross they wouldn't give our money back.

My point was it broke we binned it apart from the wood as the fault rendered the hammock useless(had not got round to binning the wood part) We only seen this recall as we wanted to purchase I new one.

I know it was pretty stupid that we went ahead and re used this and both of us have been hurt on it but would it be to late to make a claim for damage. Were not getting our money back at the moment and on principal as b&q have been so unhelpful it would be nice just to let them see that if they had just givin us our money back and taken our word for it I would have walked away thinking happy days got my money back. Now I want to claim for damages.

Oh by the way manager walked away from dh and I think it was to prevent His temper from taking over he nearley blew a fuse said he had better things to do withhis time etc. Well maybe a stitch in time saves nine, would have saved this company a damages claim.

  • Hi - looking for advice if possible.

we bought our Barcelona hammock back in 2007 it also snapped on me leaving me with a nasty gash on my right temple, lots of pain for weeks and a permanent scar on my head. We only found out about the recall when we went into B&Q to complain - they also offered me a full refund at this time.

I'm now in the process of claiming through an insurance company

This is where the problems now start -
When i bought it back in 2007 I paid cash and now have no proof of purchase (ie paperwork/receipt etc.)

B&Q 's insurers are now using this fact as a loophole to wriggle though, claiming that the hammock was sold 'though other sources' and therefore they may not have any liability. A search of the internet has not found any other such sources.

Can anyone who has previously gone through this process shed any light on my predicament? I fully accept that my injuries were not life threatening but this incident has caused me a major amount of pain and inconvenience and I feel that B&Q are now trying to wriggle out from their legal responsibilities on a technicality.

    Thanks for reading.
  • Hi just wondering if you had any luck with this? My partner was sat on our hammock & wood snapped & nearly broke his nose! We got refund by taking broken wood into b&q but now the claims team they've put us onto is saying there's not much they can offer at all as we have no receipt. I don't know a lot of people who would keep receipts for things they purchased 5 years ago!
    Thanks in advance for reply.
