B&Q Barcelona Hammock recall

I'm in the process of agreeing a claim with B&Q (being dealt with by a 'claims solutions' firm) following a hammock collapse. I was on it with my 1-year old daughter on my lap (on her first birthday no less) when it snapped in the same place as all the others and one upright with the feet attached flew over my daughter's head and hit me on the top of the head resulting in an afternoon in A&E, four stitches, side of my face so swollen I couldn't put my glasses on for a couple of days and some pretty sore neck muscles for three weeks afterwards. Not to mention my daughter in tears and covered in my blood and her first birthday pretty well ruined. Also feels like there will be a permanent scar (happened over 3 months ago) and as my wife likes to point out I'm going bald so it may be on display in years to come. As another poster said I'm also not a great believer in the claim culture but this is clearly a badly designed, dangerous product. The claims firm have offered me £1200, does this seem fair or am I being 'mugged off'? Any thoughts appreciated.
PS - for anyone still using their Barcelona hammock, don't. I'm not exaggerating when I say they're potentially lethal. I see B&Q have re-run the national adverts again recently so they're obviously pretty concerned about it.0 -
I have just been on to the help line and they state the Winchester ones are completely safe. Not entirely convinced though that the fault will not also exist on these. Going into my local B&Q tonight to have some words face to face. My metal "bits" are golden coloured so they must be able to make wood rot less. Look out for an increase in gold paint being sold for DIY'rs to protect wood. If I get any joy I will post reply.0

If this is their first offer then I would be tempted to reject it, reiterate your comments above to them (if you haven't already) and request a revised offer that more adequately reflects your injury/time off work/permanant scarring etc. I would be very surprised if they did not come back with a higher offer

hi there
i was badly injured when one of the hammocks collasped on my head, what can i say 4 stitches, and blood every where, very frightened and painful. my claim was also settled with robins claim solutions, firstly they offered me £1,600, but there was no way i was happy with that and told them i required a more satisfactory settlement for my pain and suffering , injuries etc, i have now accepted a offer of £2,700. i feel b&q are fully aware of this dangerous hammock now, if anyone has a claim going through i suggest talk to the settlement people yourself to settle your claim , as it is a lot quicker , but just dont let them fob you off with a silly offer , these hammocks are so dangerous, good luck and i hope this has helped....0 -

A friend came around today , and saw my hammock,
" thats one of those B&Q ones isnt it "
he asked
I said yes , nice aint it
He replied
" i would be careful as they have recalled them "
With that I decided to get my daughter out of the hammock and look at it , I placed my foot on the bottom cross member and pushed the up right
CRACK , SNAP, ,!!!! :eek::eek:
The whole upright just broke off , i couldnt beleive it ,
God knows what could of happened if my daughter was in that thing !!!
I decided to take it apart and return asap , but as i did one of the bottom smaller peices came away also ,
The other upright was also loose,
I thanked my friend who only came over to see us on the off chance !!
Please if anyone has this hammock, dont use it , its terrible !!!0 -
They just need the canvas and you don't need the receipt. I used to work one of the stores that got the first complaint came though nasty injuries don't use them.0

Speak to the main customer service number for B&Q to get confirmation and then ensure you ask for the manager at the branch if they won't take just the canvas. I had no issue at all.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
