I guess it works better different ways for different people but after doing a good few months of a monthly 'whopper shop' I'm now doing weekly shops
Personally, I'd found that when we did the monthly shop, I'd buy a months worth of dinners if I could too... but by week 2 I'd be bored ad would want to eat different things to what I'd bought in, but wuldn't have the budget left so would go waaaaaay over budget buying in different foods or take away.
I now find that weekly shopping is more effective for us. The first week I do buy a months-worth ofcertain things like nappies, cat food, dogg food, a big bag of pasta.. and then buy other bits at the weekend after I've menu planned and raided the cupboardsApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Mrsgibbs- I've been off work with that this week. Nasty. Felt as thought all my bones had been taken out and basked then put back in. I had flat lemonade and found that helped. Also swear by that bright, bright pink medicine which tastes like the smell of germolene if you can imagine what I mean. Settles the tum though.
Poor you, no wonder my little man is less than impressed with himself!
Take it easy, and don't over do the pink medicine, it's know to act a a bit of a laxative on the odd occation.... not good:rotfl:"There's a little witch in all of us"🔮🪬🧿DEBT FREE 06/2018Mrs SD’s Decluttering 2025 ⭐️ 🥇0 -
I am bowing out (dis)gracefully from this months challenge as i have made an absolute horlicks of it. I will be back next month armed with my vouchers from the sun!The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Maybe weekly shopping would be better, because when buying fresh foods, its easy to be tempted by other offers and increasing my budget.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0

I'm finding weekly far easier than daily, fortnightly and monthly.0 -
hi everyone
seems ages since I posted.
on the subject of take aways, I do count them in my budget and this tends to stop me buying them although this last couple of months due to family illness I have been stopping off and buying them on my way home from the hospital visiting, thus resulting in overspending.
I just let meal planning and preparation slide due to other more urgent family commitments. However hopefully we are over the crisis now and on the road to recovery so i hope to get back on track next month.
Not even going to try to work out my total spend this month as I honestly haven't got a clue.It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!0 -
Morning everyone
I'm loving keeping a track of my posts. It's really helping me stay focussed with what I'm spending. DH went to M&S again yesterday and spent £8 on nothing much. I did get some awfully expensive carrot cupcakes. I won't be buying them again but they were absolutely superb. Too, too dear though.
Anyway he spent £9 (just under but I can afford the round up:p).
I'm quietly stunned I've only spent £200 so far this month. The bank online is too slow for me to check for sure but I think I've been quite good at updating this month.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

Hi all
I'm not even at the end of my month yet (it's on Thursday) and I've failed already!! I'm currently sitting at £117.59 for my food spend this month and that doesn't include cat food, booze or cleaning stuff
Will need to go through my receipts with a fine toothcomb to see where I've overspent. Hope you are all having more luck than me
