May 2009 Grocery Challenge

Hi everyone! I'm struggling to keep up with the thread this month - between working, revising and job-hunting, I don't seem to have much spare time!
Only spent on odds and ends so far, went to the local shop yesterday for bread and milk (how expensive is bread now!) and 'accidentally' treated us to some BOGOF beers. Really, they were an investment, as I then spent an 1 and 1/2 hours completing an online application form for a job, and my god I needed a beer when I finished!
Need to devote some time this weekend to digging out some new recipes before I do the next big shop, as we're getting bored of the same meals all the time. It's too easy to just keep buying the same stuff!
Well done to all who are on track for the month, and don't panic to those who aren't!! :A0 -
Just needed to update signature, nipped into MrT for cooking oil, chips and burger muffins. Picked up some whoopsied bananas so total spend of £4.34 hoping not to spend anymore this week now.0

Hi everyone - I'm a bit late joining in as only got back from hols late on Saturday and it's been manic back at work (they missed me which is a good sign!). Anyway I have dithhered over what level to set for May's challenge. I am loathe to increase my budget even though I was over last month, and we have visitors at the next Bank Holiday - but I am going to try and stick with the same amount. Mrs M can you put me down for £270 again please? My month started on 2nd and runs to the 28th. As you can see from my sig I have already spent quite a lot as I bulk buy household stuff and meat at the beginning of the month. Hopefully I will do better this month than last!
good luck everyone.

OOOPS, I seem to be a riot againt his month. Had to go to Asda last night. Needed cold meat and milk. Ended up with this AND rolls, and squash, and onions, and cereal bars, and £10.76 later I went home
Managed a NSD today though thankfully. That's me officially over the £100 mark. Don't know how I feel about having spent so much so quickly.
I think I might try to shop with my practical head on this weekend (and that means nobody accompanying me) and see if I can shop for just what I need for the week.
Tuna pasta for tea tonight so that means leftover-last-night for lunch tomorrow :TGrocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
Evening all! Nice day today, enjoyed picking lots of lovely home grown salad for dinner, we now have spinach, radish, lots of different lettuce leaves, rocket, as well as herbs. So we had a nice HM herby omelette with the salad (cheated with oven chips) as spent so long fiddling in the garden with the veggies. Also made a nice herb and garlic loaf. Even though it was a bit overcast we had dinner in the garden -I love eating outside -everything seems to taste nicer. Also a NSD today GREAT! Hope everyone is doing wellSealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Not dipped into this thread for a few days (about to start playing catch-up with the posts), but have just updated my signature following my big shop today (also added in my two very small shops on 2nd and 4th).
Went out with a very specific list, and an intention to bring home plenty of change from £20.
The items on my list came in at £13.99 - but I managed to spend £31.19 in total
However, I'm not concerned about this at all.
I bought a few treats (3 packs of cheap biscuits, a multi-pack of crisps (from A!di), and some 'end of line' cakes) which came to £2.76, but they're the first in quite a while, so I would still have been under £20 and we all need a treat sometimes
I then spent £14.44 on items for my stockpile, which is where I took the big hit.
While I was in Mr T I noticed the frozen salmon fillets we like were on half price (down to £5) - so I bought a bag of those to add to the bag-and-a-bit in the freezer, 'cos it's the one fish DS eats happily but I can't afford it at full price.
I also spotted the 'corners' on 5 for £1, so got 10 for DS and 5 for me (dated 1st June onwards).
Then the biggest 'treat' for DS was when I spotted the 4-packs of Pot N00dles on half price at £1.61..... He's not had these for years as he doesn't like cheaper brands, but used to almost live on them. I called home to see if he wanted some (he normally has cereal as his 'snack' meal) and he said yes. On being told the bbe date is an 2010 he quickly agreed he could get through 2 packs long before then -- but I ended up picking up 4 as the offer ends very soon and I've no intention of heading back that way before it does... so another £6.44 on them!!!!
The bill still didn't seem too painful though, as I came home with three re-usable bags (one large and one small from Mr T, and one from elsewhere about the size of the small one) which were all full to the brim with food -- so the money seems to have gone a loooong way.....
And almost immediately I got home DS appeared to collect a Pot N00dle and a 'corner' for his lunch :rolleyes2Cheryl0 -
Just a quick update. Have managed another 2 NSDs but had to go to Co-op this morning and stock up. Managed to find a few bargains, BOGOFs and whoopsies though and enough meat hopefully for 4-5 meals. So, a spend of £30.75 (not including alcohol - different budget) and a few more items for the stockpile.
Hope everyone's challenge is going ok. I think mine will be a close thing, especially as we want some steak for Saturday - might have to be burgers:rolleyes:GC April 93.92/5000
