I would recommend the delivery thing. On a typical week , I do 13 hours at 5.50 taxable . I pay 22% tax flat (Code BR) which is £53ish

I then get an extra 2.80 an hour expenses is £36.40

Then there is tips which I get about £12 a week

So for two evenings work I get around £100 . Plus you get a free meal each shift.

Ok , I put 20 a week in petrol for this job , but being self employe di can claim certain tax reliefs against the car value and running costs.
  • I work in my local Sainsburys at the weekend!! Take home pay after tax about £300 a month.

Get them to "pay" you in supermarket vouchers so no cash has changed hands or to buy nappies and other stuff so that you are only doing them a favour. Also get her to have your kids on her week off so that you get some free time for yourself.

my understanding is that that can still be considered income by the Inland Revenue ( sorry if someone has already said about this i havent read every page yet)..
we had a medium near us who used to do that, you would pay for your session with him with biscuits, coffee , bred.. what ever really and the IR got him!! can you believe it!
:EasterBun ...what more do I need to say?!

I certainly can!!! That sort of behaviour is called tax avoidance and they take it very seriously indeed.

It isn;t worth avoiding paying tax IMO - they WILL find out somehow and then come down on you like a tonne of bricks.

    Best to just pay up.

If you want something legal then you can't do cash in hand, as that's illegal.

Pay your taxes like the rest of us do

I do! £160-180 a month to be exact (ni+tax) and am still in uni - have checked my tax code and they said its right but thats just a joke. I'm working whilst at uni as I'm hoping not to have huge studnt loans debt etc, when I'm finished but it just seems impossible.

Just a quick question to all you delivery type persons - what is the situation with your car insurance?

I'm registering to be a child minder during the day and I work as a Virgin Consultant/Manager as well (mainly evenings). I also have 2 children under 3 (unfortunately I don't get paid for that, except in kisses!). My husband works as a full time firefighter and does retained firefighting as well. So we both work 2 jobs! I also sell books on Amazon and dabble on eBay as well (mainly selling the kids clothes).

I have a 2nd job working for a childrens mobile gym. It's casual so it's not every weekend. It's not a great wage, but it's great pocket money and helps to keep the wolves from the door!!!
