Finally, we got some confirmation that it is going ahead!

Even though, the switch is happening this month, I think it's a good idea to wait a few more months (say before December), to make sure it's happening .

The Natwest First Reserve savings account with a VISA debit card. Looks like a customer with that account must be careful not to get overdrawn! I hope the Natwest Step and RBS Key account will have a VISA debit like LTSB and Barclays (and soon Co-op) basic bank accounts

All accounts will be visa debit cards.

I can imagine it would better to wait to see them in circulation first before you get a new card. My understanding is that the cards will be visa debit however they will be chipped like visa electron cards so every transaction requests authorisation.

Similar to LTSB and Barclays then.

The website hasn't said anything about the switch yet, even though the switch happens this month onwards.

I was thinking about why RBS/Natwest opt for Solo and Maestro a long time ago instead of VISA debit...? As you may know, VISA debit is widely accepted.

I wonder when they will start issuing them? I got a new card solo card last week and it dont expire until 04/11. When I find out someone has been issued with a visa debit. Ill have to report my card as damaged to get a replacement.

you received a card last week with an expiry date of 04/11. That's only 1 year and 11 months of validity. NatWest debit cards typically have three years.

I suspect based on this that NatWest are now issuing all Solo/Maestro cards with a expiry date of 04/11 because that is the date they intend to finish their transition, i.e. at midnight on the 31st April 2011 the last ever Maestro/Solo debit cards will expire and they'll have moved 100% to Visa Debit.

    Reasonable assumption???

Also, where did you hear that the switch-over starts this month????

to be honest i've never really encountered any major problems with my NatWest Solo debit card but bring on Visa debit please - might make me feel like a normal member of the human race again. :)
  • Sorry for the bump.

Just been discussing this in another topic and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm whether or not they've been given a card yet; if I phone up and claim to have damaged/lost my solo will they replace with a Visa? :)
