Yep, they only try the £1 to check the card is active and it is not lost/stolen. This type of card allows you to spend up to a floor limit. With the other full authorisation card as they dont know how much you are going to fill up with, they cant check to see if you have the money so instead choose not to take the card.

It would either be that or they would have to earmark say £50 and then not let the pump dispense more fuel than that amount. So if you only filled up with £10 worth of fuel you would find your available balance reduced by £50 until the transaction reached your account, which could cost you dearly as they use the available balance when sending out your standing order or paying out direct debits and paying cheques so these might be bounced. Also, you could not spend the other £40.

Could this be the reason it won't work at Morrisons Pay@Pump, as it accepts the card, you key in your PIN, it says VisaDebit and a few seconds later it says 'Transaction Cancelled'. ?

It could be, you need to get the companies to speak to there merchants to recifty the problem. The RBS Group sent a communications ages ago about the switch over its upto the companies merchants to ensure its implemented.

Wow these new cards must have some proper enhanced security.

Ive just had natwest fraud team on the blower.

Because ive used my card 4 times today within 20 mins. :o

I dropped in during the conversation with them about the cards not being accepted at some retailers. The woman said they had an email this morning stating that 9 of the merchants havent updated there systems to accept them

My visa debit so far as worked in a bank of ireland cashpoint located in our local post office, at Lidl and on just-eat.co.uk. Also appeared to be working on tesco online but I didn't complete the transaction (took me to natwest secure though)

I haven't had it fail as yet

I received 2 new Visa debit cards from Natwest on Saturday. I just tried to pay my Barclaycard bill and both the online system and the automated telephone system don't recognise the numbers. I didn't get any further than inputting the card number.
Just got off the phone from Barclaycard who insist I must be inputting the number incorrectly .

    Hope that gets sorted soon....

Just set up a bill payment on your natwest online banking, your credit card no is the reference, and it arrives same day and will go on your barclaycard account the next day as long as you do it before 6pm
  • Cheers TJ - I'll probably have to do that next month. I was still able to use my Maestro for this payment - glad I haven't cut it up! From whats been said it seems to work fine in cash points - that's the most important thing.
