Just had another thought....
Have you looked on the BBC website? There are lots of educational things on there - I would look now but my connection is so unbearably slow at the moment that I'd still be here at teatime!
I used to record schools programmes, things like numbertime, words and pictures etc which were aimed at school children and show them to my pre-schooler. I figured that I would rather that they watched something about reading and counting than speech defective teletubbies. Come Outside and Storytime are also good, there may be one with a world/planet theme although I can't remember anything offhand.
It is definitely worth a look as even if they don't understand all of it, you can watch it with them a few times and talk about - they are bound to absorb some of it. Be warned though, at one point I knew the programmes almost word perfect!!!7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
And another idea....
Probably the wrong time of year but have you looked at the moon through binoculars? Very interesting.
There are also maps of the night sky published which may be of interest (maybe for a slightly older child). Also, there are times when you can watch the space station move across the night sky which might be fun. I think the times are published somewhere too but don't know where.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
I've discovered 'Tommy Zoom' on the Cbeebies website. He loves it. It's one of the bottom right icons on the main screen.
The planets are still a favourite but he's getting bored of maps in favour of cars. We have to name every type of car we see wherever we're going. More new territory...:o I was happy with 'that's a blue one'.
He's a bit little for the binoculars and telescope and the space station was in sight way past his bedtime, but I'm looking forward to that as he gets older.
'Our Planet' seems to be a good programme and the Doodledo-ers. (We have been doodledoing in the back yard this afternoon and I've got a blister from scrubbing poster paint off the flags.:D )May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
thought i'd resurrect this thread, i was in asda today and in the toy section they had inflateable glbes for 97p. it comes with a little stand it says, but it just looks like a beach ball to me. anyway, it would make a fab beach ball
i have a spare one actually, but i don't know how you feel about pm'ing your address to someone you don't know. my pm box is full anyhow :rotfl:52% tight0 -
Hi
Do you think he may be interested in the flags from different countries? My 4 and a half year old is. You could get a flags of the wold book, try in one of those cheap book stores, i got one for £2. I think flags appeal as they are brightly coloured. We put the poster up on his wall and every night before bed he can recite about 5 or 6 countries names to me.
He is also facinated by Africa and told me the other day that there were no zoos there as the animals just wander around!
Your son sounds great, best of luck!0 -
Jellyhead, any chance of a little space in your intray? x LOL
Cutesam, you guessed right. He LOVES flags so that's a great idea.
His current obsession is still cars. He knows the make of most cars we pass and is having a go at the model too. I know so much about cars now from having to tell him the names of them. I think because there is no escape from cars it's feeding his fascination. And we have to 'play subarus' several times a day, which just involves running round, making brumming noises, but he's very specific about the make of car we have to be driving!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

What till they get bigger and start saying "look at that spoiler" "class neons" and stuff at passing cars. Mine know all the words for body kits for cars, but I often haven't a clue what they are talking aboutHere I go again on my own....0 -
i cleared a couple of messages in my inbox gingham
