I just want a reasonable service, for a reasonable price.
Unfortunately, the companies are always trying to save a penny and lose sight that they may not be providing the service that their customers want.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. I am not expecting a 5* service for £5, I just expect my package to be delivered in good condition and within the time frame specified.

I’ve read through a few of the posts on here and a lot of people have expressed dissatisfaction at Hermes when they have attempted to deliver when they are not home and that’s just wrong. I don’t think you should order stuff if you know no one is going to be home. My issue is that even being in your house and available to accept the package isn’t enough to guarantee a timely delivery from Hermes.

I still haven’t received my order from New Look. I rang them again today and was told the courier has had the package since Friday. *Hopefully* I’ll get it before Christmas. The New Look lady also mentioned that they only started using Hermes for next day deliveries recently and they have had a lot of complaints already. So it is New Look’s fault after all...for booking with a terrible carrier in the first place.

Or perhaps it is their fault because they haven't paid any more for the service they are promising you. You still haven't told us how you know for sure that New Look actually booked the service you paid for.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

And you haven’t explained why the courier felt the need to lie about delivering my La Redoute package. You seem to have an answer for everything else...another silly mistake perhaps?

Whether New Look booked the service I paid for is now irrelevant because I still don’t have my order. Even if New Look did mistakenly book standard delivery with Hermes, according to the delivery time scale of 2-4 working days as stated on New Look’s website (and I assume in the contract that New Look have with Hermes), the package would still be late.

Further, the courier has had the package since Friday. Why is she waiting to deliver it? This ties in with my earlier overworked/incompetent statement.

I don’t know whether you work for Hermes or just enjoy playing devil’s advocate (not that it matters), but unfortunately no amount of words will convince me that Hermes have provided an acceptable service on the 3 occasions I have encountered them. Sorry, 2 occasions. I’m still waiting for the 3rd.

I have no idea why you think your courier lied, I have no idea if she did or not. I have not spoken to her, nor do I have the powers of clairvoyance. Maybe she delivered it to the wrong address and was only alerted to that fact when you enquired about you package.

Well actually it is relevant, because if they paid for the three to five working days service (Hermes don't have a two to four day service) and they didn't get the goods to Hermes until Friday, it is still within the parameters of the service they have requested.

She may not actually have it?

  • I have also had problems with these 'fly by night couriers'
Yesterday my parcel tracking number advised me that at '06/12/2011 05:36 Out For Delivery To Courier'
    and by '06/12/2011 16:02 Courier to Re-attempt'
but inbetween it also said at approx 08:26 that it was out for delivery which changed to the 16:02 message.
I had been in all day waiting on the basis of their tracking info.
E-mailed Hermes and received an automated response saying it had nothing to do with them. (I'm sorry, but how?)
Then todays tracking messages now inform me that 07/12/2011 05:28 Out For Delivery 07/12/2011 09:05 Courier Received 07/12/2011 11:10 Signature From Customer
This is even more impressive as my wife and I had been out of the house since 8 o'clock.
Parcel was left at front door.

    Erm...incompetence?

I'll be in a better position to comment once I actually get the goods.

Once a delivery has been dispatched (which this has as payment has left my account), it goes to the hub right? And this is a Hermes hub? So if the courier personally does not have it, then is it correct to say that it would still technically be with Hermes?

    Read the thread.

Which post? This thread is what, 3 years old? Its safe to say I won't be reviewing all your contributions.

Assuming you do work for Hermes, I can only commend your dedication to your employer. One can only hope however that you are doing more to improve its reputation than defending its bad practices on the internet.

Looks like I join the throngs of people unhappy at the appalling service given by this joke of a company. Three attempts at delivery so far and yet still no sign of any parcel. I'll probably get a replacement item as long as they do not use these jokers to deliver it.

Hope this company goes under soon :)
  • Does anyone happen to know the latest Hermes deliver in a day, or does it depend on the courier? (For instance, do they operate 9-5, 8-6 etc?)

I only ask as I've rescheduled a delivery for today (they tried to deliver the other day, and when I ordered there was nothing to state I'd have to sign for delivery, and it's only a jumper so it would go through the letterbox!) and as with most couriers they were unable to give a specific time. Fingers crossed it'll be here by teatime as I've evening plans, and having read through some of this thread I'm now a little anxious!
