Seems then that the supermarkets let the banks know which part of a transaction is cash and which are goods, even it its one transaction!

No, you give your debit card number, expiry date etc in the pay in funds section on their websites.0 -

nah - but if you want to complain I would say write to customer relations but add his name to it.0

if you ring halifax customer services they will not give you his email address but the email add for complaints (unless your lucky enough to get through to the Belfast or Cardiff call centres who have complaints teams) and they can forward the email onNew surname New start!
