Hmm, that's the thing with new car - they're all electicals and not so much mechanical... My car would be great for that but then I don't know how much longer I'm going to have it. (Instead of looking at Poolie's figures last night, I went on the Fiat website and configured a 500 - colour, interior, extras...)

Thats the problem Tete. I started doing that after we had decided and you get to the stage were you really want it.

News out yesterday that 60,000 cars had been ordered under the scheme.

60,000?! Crikey. Looks like their idea worked then?

Tete - Have you decided to get one? I think if you still want one after this long you should go for it!

Aye I saw that - has anyone been following the 6 credit crunch families on BBC news? One bloke went to do his car under the scrappage deal and he kept finding the garage owners were really negative, and kept pushing him towards one year old cars which were a lot cheaper but they gave him a full 3 or 5 year warranty! I guess it might be a lot of paperwork for the garage to go through and its not seen as cost effective to them?

Lol I still think you'd be better to buy nearly new than brand new. You don't have to worry about depreciation and a lot of garages offer a warranty anyway. You shouldn't have to talk yourself into a new car if yours is fine and you're happy with it, why not wait for the results of the non-MOT MOT?

I am concerned that the scrappage deal is seen as 'too good to miss' by too many people, who are taking on debts for an asset which will never be worth as much as they are paying out on it, where before they'd just have got a five year old car in cash, now they take out finance on a brand new one, yet when they come to sell it in 3 years the 2k saved is kind of insignificant against the 50% drop in value its taken.

Just had the factoring bill for our flat in Paisley. They are increasing the direct debit by 3 times the amount.

Reason - They had to employ a grounds management company to sort out the gardens and area. Apparently they had to do a lot of work to bring it up to scratch which is why it was so expensive. They will be retendering the contract in October for the new year and are expecting the costs to be much lower.

OK it means paying for it now with the higher DD but at least when it comes to November they will reassess it and I think the DD will be coming straight back down to what it was. The amount the put on there statement didn't even include this months DD so had to phone them up and ask why and get them to adjust for this months direct debit.

What a pain - does not blow the budget too much as long as we don't go nuts in Paris.

PS - OH missed plane back from barcelona so had to buy a new ticket. Instead of flying into Heathrow she is now going to Gatwick. Heathrow is about 30-40 minutes away and Gatwick 90 minutes. Hopefully the car can be frugual with fuel. Not helped by the fact that her phone battery is about run out as well. Have told her to turn it off till she gets back to UK.
